    fifa 2004

played fifa 2004 on ps2 today, and what a dissapointment it was !
i've never seen a football game play so slow in my life, and they've taken out the speed settings !!
pro-evo is faster even when you're not sprinting.
and i noticed that it jerks during play too and on replays.
on the upside the career mode and online functions look good.
    i think i'll stick with proevo3 !

Played it myself today for the 1st time and it was better than I expected but its still crap in comparison to Pro Evo and even Xbox ISS.

It's too slow, the animations of the players don't seem to be as convincing as Pro Evo and overall it all seems very sluggish and devoid of the little flicks and moments of class that Pro Evo has. I also hated the layout of the menus and the fact you have to wait ages for the game to restart if you pause it midgame. The whole choose a corner kick routine from a drop down menu and the controlling of the off the ball player don't work too well either.
The only plus point is the commentary and the real names, but even this isn't as good as the commentary and crowd effects on Club Football.

Fifa Soccer is the Spurs of the football world. Devoid of any ideas, dull and living on past glories as it's constantly outclassed by superior opposition. Still popular but nobody really knows why.
      Maybe.

Played it a couple of weeks ago, and luckily, no one has forced me to do so again

I swore i wouldnt touch another FIFA game until they put back the indoor matches. Theyre were pretty fun back then.

Ive been a ISS/PES man for a few years now so i havnt really kept up with the changes EA have made with the series. Apparently fifa 2003 was a real step up in quality. Shame they seemed to have got too heavily into the 'off the ball' gimmick this time round.

I had forgotten all about that mode, Fifa would be so much better if it still had it. Although SNES Striker probably had a better indoor mode.

Fifa's best version was probably 2001 or 2002 and funnily enough that was then it received its most abuse!

2001 had a great "dirty tackle" button and lots of kool skills and flicks. 2002 removed the high tackle, but kept the fast pace.

Haven't played them since but judging by the 2003/2004 impressions it sounds like they dropped speed and fun moves to try and make it more realistic. Boo to that!

Which version had the 'dive' option? One of my funniest gaming moments was taking a dive in the box against my brother and getting a penalty to win the match. Its the little things in life sometimes

Was it Microsoft Soccer or the early Fifa's where, during the ingame footie matches, you could curl the ball so much that it virtually come back to you? That was great

How does this Off the Ball thing work in the new version?

From what i've seen from the vids, all it is it that players make runs now instead of standing there like a prat as in every version before it

So, basically FIFA's new "trick" is something that is already evident in the Pro Evo series?

                        That would be Microprose Soccer.

Hey thats unfair bowser123 Spurs are playing some very good football currently, in good form and rapidly climbing the table. So your comparison with Fifa 2004 is innacurate.

Actually Fifa 2002 version (and 2001 if I remember rightly) you have a button you press to tell your man to make a run then you can flick the "through ball pass" to try and tee him up.

My and I friends quite enjoyed Fifa 2002, its only major problem was the defense A.I. was so piss poor and all the teams basically played the same so South Korea could easily play on par with Italy kinder ruined the game, even though they got the attacking almost prefect.

Which fifa had the 'Star' players with super shots, crosses, tackles and speed all with cool blur effects, it was very arcady had a ton of tricks and fuss fun.
