the big first party games such as Galaxy, Wii Sports Resort are all excellent - you can't really go wrong with them

      Some less obvious choices...

If you are a Tetris head then Tetris Party (WiiWare) or Tetris Party Deluxe are worth a look.

They have nice online support (up to 6 players in classic battle mode) and have loads of - for once - very good variations on the basic game - all with local 4 player support and most alternative modes have some sort of online support. It also has a nice co-op mode and there's a daft mode for the balance board. Well worth getting.

The Deluxe edition adds some options to the main alternate modes but has some new extra modes - the excellent Bombliss mode (a SNES great), a really hardcore master mode, a 2v2 team battle mode and extra balance board modes. It also supports Wii Speak in the battle lobby.

If you like your 2d platforming hardcore then go for Donkey Kong Country Returns.

Geometry Wars Galaxies is excellent and supports twin stick via the classic controller as an alternative to the new remote & nunchuck option.

Kororinpa and its sequel Marble Balance Challenge are excellent tilt-em-ups.

Let's Tap - nice mini game selection where you control things by tapping a box that has the wii remote resting on it...The first game - tap race is genius in multi-player.

Disagree on both counts unless you are still rocking a 4:3 tv!

Isn't there less bloom in that version? The bloom in TP nearly ruined it for me.

Dunno where you got that idea from but there's a fair bit of bloom in both versions. Honestly, to me they are the exact same game except for mirrored, better aiming on Wii and the 16:9 suits my TV better. I can see why someone would subjectively prefer the GCN version though as that was the original target and Link remains left-handed. From all technical aspects though the Wii version is superior.

Another vote for GameCube Twilight Princess being better, here. The Wii version has the awful fairy pointer, which makes a noise EVERY time you move the Wiimote. I had to turn it off and aim with the stick instead. That also got rid of the atmosphere-breaking "Point the Wii Remote at the screen" messages. It's also missing shielding on horseback and the fast dismount from the GCN version. The whole game feels 'off' to me cos of the flipped world, and I played the Wii version first. Plus, having to use the stick to determine sword swipe direction along with waggle is pretty terrible. Wii Twilight Princess should look like a prototype once Skyward Sword is out and does motion control sword combat properly. I realise this is all subjective but it always amazes me that more people don't have issues with the Wii version. Widescreen is nice, though.
