Your favourite level in a game? (May contain spoilers)

What's the one level or area in a game that's impressed you more than anything? Mine would have to be the forest at the end of Shenmue 2.

Oh, and the Rock night club in Conkers Bad Fur Day. The stuff Rare could get out of the N64 was amazing.

Gotta love the lovely spoiler there for those who might be working their way through the game...

The best level(s) have obviously got to be Green Hill Zone

This level from Street Fighter 2. If only for the lovely, lovely music...

Before anyone else says it, and so others can poo-poo it, The Silent Cartographer. One of the most perfect levels ever.

Correction, Two Betrayals was superb. Particularly the ending sequence. I can imagine the board meeting for the level design.

Bungie 1: "What should we do after the Library?"
Bungie 2: "Let's revisit an earlier level"
Bungie 1: "But won't people get bored"
Bungie 3: "Nah we'll make them play it in reverse. With banshees"
          Bungie 2: "I like Banshees"
          Bungie 1: "What next?"
Bungie 4 (DER MIGHTIEST DESIGNER EVER, stirs, all eyes rest on him. Silence descends):
"**** it, let's show these pussy players how many characters we can throw around at one time. Yeah, let's make a battle between two sides. Except they both want you dead"

But the Silent Cartographer comes runner up.

Meh. Silent Cartographer is tops, followed closely by Assault On The Control Room. Two Betrayals is further down the line.

Yeah, that's right, I said it. Further. Down. The. Line.

The TIE Fighter mission where your wing leader is...Darth Vadar. I don't really need to say anymore

The Jehuty Vs. 5 Battleships sections in ZOE: 2nd Runner. Carnage on a huge scale, actually using the Vector Cannon and wonderful music.

OoT Forest Temple. Quite simply the best dungeon in one of the best games ever. Dark, creepy atmosphere, Adult Link, Hookshot, and a fantastic conclusion with the phantom Ganon boss.

AOTCR? Hmm, well it did introduce Banshees. And tanks are always good. But it is hard to play it in one sitting. I'm not very good at timekeeping, but it seems to last for at least an hour. I think the first time it took me 3 hours.

But the best level is possibly Halo(sic), on Legendary - first band of survivors.

5 minutes later - all the survivors dead and 3 dropships full of baddass Covenant troops have just touched down all around you.

                  Sssssssssshhhhhhhhiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiitttttt......

I'm all for Halo on Legendary. My tactic... run like a coward! It even makes you feel bad when Cortana says, "They're all dead. We couldn't save them..." Then your brain engages. "WE? WE! You mean me you purple idiot!"

Even now I can take that thing on about 50% of the time the trepidation hasn't left. Its one of those things; you don't even need to say the game's name - the phrase "Expert 7" is enough to strike fear into the hearts of anyone who has met it.

Im sorry. Im cheating a bit but I cant mention just one!

The snowfield in Metal Gear Solid
Not as intresting as some of the other levels in the game but for me this is the one I most re-visited and enjoyed playing through. Cant wait for the GameCube illiteration where you'll be able to take out the search lights!

The re-created bus terminal in Jet Set Radio Future.
It was fantastic first time around but this version is astonishing. Massive, detailed, fun and once you figure out how to grind through the centre of the level it becomes a huge roller coaster.

                            The sandstorm of P.N. 03
I'll probally forget all about this level in a couple of months but this is my most played game at the moment. It's a game not liked by many but I found it exhillerating like no other game this year. You've seen the white and grey corridors in screenshots but you load it up and there is a massive sandstorm blowing up like you would not expect. Cartwheeling, dodging and firing all over the place, I havent had this much fun in a game for a long time.

                            Halo
Like the beginning of Mario 64 for me. Beautiful vistas, rolling hills, thounderous waterfalls and then the dropship's. Alsmost the best beginning of any level in a game. Stunning.

There's a ton more but I dont want to get carried away!

                              Good topic.

Here's one that immediately springs to mind:-

                              Zelda: The Wind Waker
                              - Visiting Hyrule Castle underwater and seeing it in Black and White, until you retreive the Master Sword, then "life" returns to the castle. Genius.
