Has anybody here been playing around with OnLive now that it's officially launched in the UK?
For people that are unaware - BT customers get a free 3 month subscription to the PlayPack bundle, which actually has a half decent collection of games on it!
The first game that you purchase is ?1 also. Coupled with the money off you get for being a PlayPack subscriber, I managed to pick up Warhammer 40k Space Marine for 70p. I'd call that a bargain.
I'm running this on a 12mb~ BT DSL line with the PC connected over WiFi.
Initial impressions were a little bit weak, but extended impressions are excellent.
The latency on the menu didn't seem to be that much improved from when I played around with this on US servers, however I got into a few games and it instantly brought a smile on my face.
I've been playing Ninja Blade and Space Marine quite a lot, with absolutely no problem on either. The mouse aiming in Space Marine is excellent latency wise, and I've been getting completely sucked into the gameplay without being reminded that the game is running off a video stream. You literally do forget that fact.
There are some games that don't work so well - I didn't have a great time with Dirt 3, and Saints Row 2 seems to be running at 2x speed permanently.
Nonetheless, I am very impressed, and I honestly do believe that OnLive is a worthwhile gaming platform right now.
When the iPad client comes out I'll be incredibly happy!
Any thoughts or impressions?
