    Assassins Creed III

The story kick-started by 2007's Assassin's Creed will be tied up before December 2012, with developer Ubisoft Montreal…

Yep, the end is nigh. First discussion on next years release before even this years release is out.

Next years Assassins Creed sequel will bring an end to Desmonds storyline as the overall arch comes to an end. Any further games from there on will start a fresh character and storyline from scracth. Assassins Creed 3 will also be the final annual title as a restructure at Ubisoft will mean slowed down releases.

The game should be out in November 2012 on PS3, 360, PC and WiiU

Love the series and to be honest I've only just gotten into it... I played the first and wasnt amazed, then I had the second and brotherhood bought for me as birthday presents two years in a row.

It was only when my mate came over and found I'd not played them yet that I felt compelled (i.e. guilty) and got stuck in. Have now fully completed both campaigns and loved every minute of them. Also have Revelations now pre-ordered... just hope Ubisoft sort out their online matchmaking and lobby systems because Brotherhood is broken beyond all belief and I've only ever managed to get into a handful of matches.

The level of improvement in this series considering turn around times is amazing, that said I'll be glad to see it slow down next gen if only to stop the feeling of saturation appearing

        Agreed.

I've basically played AC2 > ACB back to back over the last 4 months and pretty much rinsed them of achievements (with the exception of multiplayer in ACB)... and even though I've adored what ACB has thrown into the mix it's quite clear to me that it needs a new setting or time period, some new toys and twists to keep it from getting stale.

I do love the crossbow in ACB but all things considered it's only a slight refinement on AC2 and I actually enjoyed the dungeons/puzzles in AC2 more as a whole. It looks like Revelations will be a stellar inclusion into the current Ezio trilogy and pave the way for a nice conclusion and segue into what else is to come...

There will be a "major" new entry in the Assassin's Creed franchise in 2012, Ubisoft has confirmed.

A 'major' AC game has been announced for 2012 which makes it pretty odds on it's this. News will be coming on it soon with the game set for PC, PS3, 360 and WiiU

PSM3 magazine has suggested that at least part of the sequel could be based in Egypt

            Spoiler

A late story point in Revelations points to Egyptian capital Alexandria

If they can capture the feeling of Egypt and the nile, if they can capture the 3 Pyramids and the Sphinx then we will be in for something truly special

Considering how uninterested I've been feeling in Revelations, I'm not looking that much forward to this. I'll still get it, but the first few hours of Revelations has tainted much of the series for me. They've added too much complicated crap just to justify it "not being an expansion pack". I don't care if it was the same stuff we got to use/do in Brotherhood in Revelations, I loved that and want more regardless.

Hopefully they scale back the dens/hook/crap from Revelations to make the series enjoyable again.

Ubisoft have pretty much ruined my favorite franchise very quickly. I mean, I feel Final Fantasy is more up to scratch now than AC.

I'm hoping AC3 nails it as it's finally the climax of the whole storyline

I am disappointed with your first play and comments regarding revelations. I was looking forward to this all year. I will still pick it up but it's been pushed to the back of the queue.

An unconfirmed but likely sounding release schedule for Ubisoft has AC3 listed for release at the end of the year on PC, PS3, 360 and WiiU

Interestingly after reading first play comments for Revelations I've since started it and really been thoroughly enjoying it. Yes the den defence stuff is rubbish but you can avoid it quite substantially to make it less of an annoyance.

All up it's more of the same but Constantinople is a beautiful backdrop for the game and the hidden locations, which are my favourite part of the series, are as large and amazing as ever. If anything the only major negative is that some main missions seems overly simple while side missions can need major repeating with no skipping cutscenes. It's like the balance is all over the place.

I don't find the hook blade to be bad either. It's like accepting Ezio has a new toy and given his maturity his abilities are honed.

For AC3 really all this can easily change. New character, new era, new toys. Surely it's Desmond's turn for a bit more limelight if they're serious about closing out the story?

Yeah, Revelations is pretty fab and certainly a lot better than I was expecting following all the criticism. It doesn't do much new, and what it does do new it mostly does badly, but Constaninople is a sight to behold and picking people off is still as satisfying as ever. I actually thought Revelations was the final installment in the series when I picked it up.

I'd like to see AC3 set in Cairo or maybe a return to Jerusalem and Acre. Europe ain't exotic enough.

I'm not sure what time period or location would be best for the next one but a complete contrast would certainly close this chapter off best. I do love Instanbul / Constantinople but it's not massively different from the previous locales.

I know they won't dispense with the main mechanics either but certainly the introduction of a new assassin in a different era would mix improvements in technology with the existing athletic attributes.

With Revelations adding tower defence was a huge mistake and to be honest I found the Mediterranean game too hands off as well. I think that may actually be better served as a persistent online multiplayer game akin to Chromehounds with Templar/Assassin factions battling for control? Either way currently it's only a times mechanic to raise your assassins up the ranks. Nothing more.

I also didn't like that they'd removed horses. I like horses!

Who knows though. AC2 still stands as the pinnacle so far but only because of it serving as the entry point for Ezio with a direct coherent story. What has come next has been evolving slightly but the story has only expanded on what had already been established.
With AC3 they can do it all over again with a different character and fully develop Desmonds character at the same time.
