The new(est) 4p cabs here are called Sega Racing Classic. I've not had chance to slip a credit in one yet to comment on the gameplay (shame on me) but it all looks the same, albeit in blistering 720p with tidied up graphics.

I think the music has been edited because of the Daytona references.

        We don't know yet.
The youtube sweepstake is giving away 10 free PSN copies and the US PSN blog hints that it'll be out Oct 25th. Nothing pointing to an XBLA release yet but they'd be foolish if they didn't.

But it's down as "Daytona USA" on the Australian ratings site and SRC had a different soundtrack so it's looking promising.
I hope it's an arcade perfect port and with the greatest respect to Sumo, I hope it's in house. Model 2 ports are not easy.

Really who cares what the name will be . As long as its a perfect port of Model 2 game with it's AI and handling all intact , I couldn't care less what the name is , or the lack of tracks or extra's ECT. A perfect port with On-Line multi player is all I've been wanted since the DC days and with luck that all we'll get.

Even now Daytona USA its one of the best racers ever made

Your both so on the money gents, this would be very special if done correctly.

Re-obtaining a license isn't all that hard probably. Perhaps they didn't really bother for a limited arcade release but will when it reaches consoles. And, if this game sells... perhaps we might witness a Power Edition/Battle on the Edge package in 2020 or so?

Wasn't Sega Racing Classic done in house?

Whoever is doing it, I just hope they take their time with it and make it right. Straight up emulation of the original with pop up and crazy clipping issues is not it.

All the home ports of Daytona play rubbish (though the first saturn one is at least playable, the less said about the other ones the better). In fact Sega's home ports of their racing games either play absolubtley perfect (Sega Rally, Outrun 2) or astonishingly bad (nearly every other racing port they have had).

Can't say I have much faith really.

                  Sumo Digital ported Outrun 2

You're right though, Sega have quite a bad track record when it comes to in-house ports of their racers, Sega Rally aside. Daytona, Sega Touring Car and Sega Rally 2 springing to mind. Manx TT was a decent enough port, but that was done by Tantalus.

I think given Sega's recent track record with their ports, I'd trust Sumo Digital with the game much more than Sega themselves.

I'd probably buy it (if it comes to xbla). If I had 3 or 4 hours of enjoyment out of it, then it'll probably be worth the money.

This will always be a pipe dream, but I've always wanted some kind of 40-player online Daytona

I'd love to see them include the extra tracks from CCE, though I doubt they will.

You think that's pipe dreaming? Well here's a real pipedream!

I'd love Sega to release Daytona USA 3 with current gen graphics which featured the original 3 courses from 1, the 3 courses from 2 the courses from Championchip Circuit Edition and all the original courses from Daytona USA 2001 as well as 3 brand new courses for PS3 & 360 running at 60fps with no slowdown. I would also like to see 40 & 30 player online racing lag free!

CRI did the Saturn port of Touring Cars (and it wasn't a good game in the arcades anyway) and while Sega Rally II wasn't quite what it should have been, it was a bloody great racer when you got used to the handling - it just a shame the game was rushed out Imo Daytona USA on the the Saturn was fantastic with spot on AI from the Arcade (again it just a shame it was rushed out) .

Porting games running on more powerful Hardware or rushing games out are not issues Daytona USA are going to face when it comes to the XBLA/PSN downloaded. The only really issue is how many On-Line players will the game be able to handle, I love to see 40 , but be happy with 20 .

I hope AM#2 division that been handling most of SEGA's Arcade ports on XBLA (Virtual ON, After Burner Climax) are behind the port

I'm sure I saw somewhere that said it was 8 player online, so commence the outrage.

8 player is fine, after 2 weeks there won't be enough players online to populate any higher

Probably not but Sega didn't renew Outrun's Ferrari licence, hence its removal from the arcade. If this new racer is Daytona branded I'll be picking it up fairly quickly in case licence expiration sees it pulled from the download services in future.

Shame really, as I would've liked an Outrun/Sega Rally/Daytona triple pack on disc.
