The SNES/SFC version of Area 88/UN Squadron is a bit of a different beast from the original coin-op though... and much better for it in my eyes too.

All this talk of UN squadron made me listen to this:-
I listened to the Mickey: Castle of Illusion first stage music too. It's impossible not to smile whilst listening 'If your a fan of the game'
Next time I have time to kill I am going to edit my ten with you tube vids. Would love to see others do the same.

This is especially tough.
For me I think the games that at the time absolutely blew my mind and personallly stood out from their peers are the ones closest to the "10" although I don't think they all are technically perfect & will have some faults.
No Doubt I've forgotten some brilliant games, but off the top of my head:
Resident Evil 2
Resident Evil 4
Metroid Prime
Halo
Rainbow Six Vegas
SOCOM
FF VII
Front Mission III
Gran Turismo
Uncharted 2
Unlucky not to make the cut:
Dragon Age: Origins
Mass Effect
Assassin's Creed II
Suikoden II
Final Fantasy Tactics
Disgaea
Metroid Fusion

I really need to pick up Power Stone. It looks so much fun - in a similar way to Smash Bros.

Ok, here's my list:
The Last Ninja 2 (C64)
Frontier: Elite II
The Secret of Monkey Island II: LeChuck's Revege
Wing Commander III (PC - possible case of rose-tinted glasses with this one, but for its time...)
Super Mariokart
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (should get a 10 for the soundtrack alone)
Metal Gear Solid 3 (this was the game of the PS2/Xbox/Gamecube generation)
Mass Effect 2
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Planescape: Torment

I'll start: Final Fantasy VIII, how can anyone pick VIII over VI, VII or IX? You are wrong people! Wrong I tell you!!
Who's next?
VII is brilliant but overrated, it's a 9. It is only regarded so high because it was many peoples first entry into the series. It suffers from shocking translation, inconsistant graphics regarding the character models and some very poor sounding music.
