With Black/White they changed the way how the battles were presented, before they were static images of the Pokemon but in these new ones the sprites have a bit of animation. They look a little pixelly but the movement makes the world of difference to me as it makes it much more engaging. I was playing Soul Silver when my girlfriend was playing White and the battles were so slow in comparison.
Other additions that I can remember off the top off my head:
More mixed type Pokemon eg. Electric AND Flying.
Some of the towns look 3D as you walk through them.
Season change as well as the weather.
The new Pokemon are actually pretty good, like a bit more thought went into them.
In the more recent games they have a lot of extra things to take part in.

The originals are still great of course, I find they are well suited for gaming on your phone as they are quite simple graphically in comparison to the modern ones.

      Zapdos dude!

I tend to turn the battle animation off in games like this (Advance Wars being the other example I can think of) otherwise battles take forever.

The graphics in black/white are pretty sweet I agree - the cities look very different to in all the other games, HG/SS/Pearl/Diamond/Plat all use the same models from Leaf Green/FR/Ruby/Sapphire and make them look a bit more 3d in a 2d way.

Why has no one here mentioned Yellow yet?! As far as I can remember it was more or less the same as Red/Blue but you got Pikachu as your first pokemon, who follows you around everywhere and I *think* there are some more secret Pokemon to catch. The Pokemon games are classic, and they really represent the finest of Nintendo imo.

Yellow is honestly the most polished in my opinion. It keeps more true to the anime than anything else.

Red/Blue are a good place to start though, if only to mess about with all the glitches.

            ...fair point lol.
What I meant to say was that there are more mixed types than normal, the flying/electric type was the 1st to pop in my head though (that flying squirrel thing in particular).

Missingo! That was fun, although it really did mess up some stuff...

I had completely forgotten about Yellow, which is stupid as I bloody loved it. It was THE game of the TV series.

I was quite happy when I played SoulSilver to see that they had brought back Pokemon following you around, in some ways it is better as you can have any Pokemon you like, they just have to be the first Pokemon you are carrying.

Fader I was just messing with you matey, I haven't played Black/white myself but am sure you're right

Did anyone play the romhacks of Keitai Denjū Telefang? Pok?mon Jade and Diamond.

That allowed your Pok?mon to follow you.

Ha, I didn't but I remember being told about various other colour versions available in Japan and America. I don't think we, or even the school, had the internet at that point so these were always unverified rumours...

I did play a few random games though - Pokemon Gold 2 was one of them and was effectively a Kirby game with Kirby and the enemies edited to look like Pokemon.

I'd recommend Soul Silver which is fantastic update to the original GBC game, has the best post Elite 4 content of any Pokemon game and is just ?19.95 at Zavvi at the moment (http://ht.ly/88DjF).

You can download a Movie14 Victini from Nintendo WiFi until the end of the month for Pokemon Black and White.

I just got Victini and used in my first encounter with N. I did not realise that this gift was going to be such a high level Pokemon. Lvl 50! Killed Purrlion in one move.

Think Im going to not choose Victini in battle from now on, so that the game remains challenging. Is there a way to sell it or something?

You should find that it won't always obey you until you have the right number of gym badges but it is worth keeping hold of it. If you want to trade it you'll only be able to do so over local DS play, the Cherish Ball it comes it cannot be traded over Pokemon GTS.
