But if people did that SNK wouldn't see any of the money. That's why this device appeals to me, a chance to play a large collection of these titles, affordably without having to pirate the games.

As much as I like picking up genuine articles... I lost faith in SNK Playmore a decade ago. I'd rather pirate the old SNK stuff than have money go to that crew. It's like trying to stomach paying for Jimi Hendrix material knowing that he died a druggy bum, whilst his scum-hole sister posthumously reaps the rewards.
This will offer a lot less than my Xperia Play, which I already have two of.Last edited by dataDave; 14-08-2012, 04:51.

This reminds me of those expensive special edition Transformers they release these days, for middle aged men to buy, especially if they missed out during the time they were released. Most gamers will never have owned the original machine (for good reason- a game cost the price of a Megadrive in those days), but they have the cash now and will stump up for one.

Aside from the SNK logo, it's not really the 'genuine article', is it. The hardware itself will be some generic Chinese device running some emulator. The hardware has no relation to Neo Geo hardware.
Don't get me wrong, the TV dock is very stylish. It remains to be seen how the clone stick feels, but it's a nice touch. But it's still just a generic Chinese device with an emulator and a bunch of roms, for $199.

I have an old 17" LCD in the corner of my games room and I'm thinking that this could be a lovely toy to have, and hell even if the emulation is only 95% right, I can live with that.
My fear is that the CPU/memory of the unit will be so poor that it will be a frame skipping, out of sync mess.
Time will tell.

Hmm, I guess having no experience of emulation on 'similar' devices has perhaps made me a little hasty. As with averybluemonkey, the fact that it's properly licensed is a plus point (to me), but if it turns out that it can't actually run any of the games properly then I'm obviously not so interested. If it's entire raison d'etre is to play Neo games though, you would like to think that's been instrumental in the specs? Perhaps I'll wait for someone braver than I to take the plunge.
