I very much doubt you'll find many of these units still working in 20+ years Dan, unlike the MD and SFC.

Thanks for the opinions guys. I've been able to track down a local-ish store that has these in stock. I'm going to take a look this weekend. Will I put down the cash? Well, Neo Geo emulation on my big TV via the laptop's HDMI looks very nice as do my retro consoles via RGB / Framemeister HDMI. I'm a fussy bugger so a good image quality is very important to me. No point playing something that looks ass on the big screen. A normal AES / MVS running through my Framemeister looks **** hot at 720p. I've actually tried one on it and was very impressed which pointed me towards this new system. The original Neo Geo AES as fantastic as it is cost way too much money for many of the games I'd like.

I don't think it will satisfy you in the video department.

probably not but I'm planning on buying some SFC games anyway so the trip to the store won't be wasted.

If you're going to be hooking the thing up to the telly anyway, and already have a laptop, then I don't really see the point in buying one. It's not as if this device is any more official than MAME or Nebula.

Seen them for 12,000 yen in Tokyo Yakumo, just to give you a general idea of the prices.

I got mine for like 19,000. It's fun to play on the TV, and the device itself is extremely well made. It's not perfect.... but nothing is, and since leaving the UK I don't complain half as much.

Id have to agree, I'd say wait until the end of April and see if they have fixed the resolution output issues in the firmware update.

I'm more talking about how it won't look as good as an original machine via an XRGB or even as good as emulation on his laptop. Not the frankly ridiculous fact they've released a product that isn't fit for purchase.

If the resolution is fixed to output at the neo geo's native resolution it'll look as good as either of those things.

The one on ASHENS look cack not because of resolution but because of artefacts on the image. It looked like composite almost but he said that the unit was running via HDMI. This is why I want to see one in person on a good screen and needed to hear if other people have had issues. The not perfect emulation is a 100% turn off though however this could be fixed with a firmware upgrade I'm hoping.

The plan is to see one in the flesh tomorrow and then if I like it I'll wait for a firmware update and see how it goes. If not I may just end up buying a MVS for the cheaper solution.

                              Thanks for the update, SuperDanX!

I'm suspicious that your reason for championing the NeoGeoX is purely based on nepotism as you both have the same surname!
