i feel sorry for those affected - a good friend of mine manages my local game. but even now, the strategy is mad - I mean, I bought Mario strikers (WII) for ?1.98 in the firesale, and now they have put prices up and are offering 75% of current selling price as trade in. so I traded it back in for ?7.50! the business sense is daft.

Ah ok. i guess if Game survives in some form the best thing every employee should do is try and find a new job asap, its only a matter of time the whole of retail goes down the tubes, easier to get a job if you have one, than try and get one while on the dole.

That firesale was a last ditch attempt to get the cash into the bank so they could pay bills. It didnt work, it seems, as they are now obviously on the verge of administration. So they may aswell build their stock back up now, either way its all inevitable.

Well, I'm going into work tomorrow but I don't think I'll still be there by the end of the week:

              GAME talks collapse

There was an article in the papers saying several companies are expected to vanish due to rent payments being so large and nobody having made any money

I know the government is hesitant to say it but it's properly Recession Mark II stages, so reminiscent of the year Woolies and a load of others went. Several Wilkinsons in my general area are showing strong signs of imminent implosion too.

I am not sure its that, just that I think that the stores thought they are immune to internet sales direct from the warehouses instead of via middle men. It's weird really, these stores took away all local shops and now they are under attack in much the same way.

Well when a store is costing an average of ?13000 a month to just for rent and wages, you can quickly see how a store needing to make profit to cover that, with such low margin products is actually. Pretty tough

No I agree its hard out there, but like with the Dixons group having multiple stores does seem an even bigger risk. Duplicating your stores even behind the guise of Gamestation seemed really foolish.

                                Now official (Administration)

Video game retailer, Game Group, goes into administration, with the immediate closure of 277 stores in the UK and Ireland.
