EA defector whistle blows all forums infected by viral marketers - EA buys more

    Seems legit to me:
A supposed former viral-marketer had some interesting things to say, as he detailed how his job at EA was basically to "troll" forums and websites to create viral marketing effects and deflect bad press from the inner circles of gaming. He also mentions that EA is planning to buyout another firm soon.

There's about 560 full and part time people that do my (old) job at EA. Other companies have people in similar positions. So that post or thread you think is vir*al marketing might just be.

"Trolling" popular websites and forum boards and aiming to derail bad publicity and "negative" marketing from spreading. Sort of like those people who are on Amazon right now defending Capcom's inclusion of disc-locked content and trying to discredit the reviews who bring this poor business practice to light.

EA actually spent more than $747 million on marketing last year. That's close to $1 billion marketing stuff by paying people to troll; advertising; press events, etc.,
It does explain why there are a lot, and I mean A LOT of people defending ME3 and its endings, defending the practices of EA and other big publishers, defending on disc DLC, and generally derailing any criticism aimed at these corporations.

The only safe thing is to not trust anyone on here, and begin Mccarthy-era style witch hunts in earnest.

Oh, and apparently EA is going to buy another studio.

Unless I'm missing something doesn't it say EA will be buying out another company rather than vice versa? I wouldn't let my company be bought out by EA, they're like Activision, buy 'em then close 'em. Well, not unless I was looking to cash in and get out.

Though I didn't have beef with ME3's ending I swear I don't work for them

Good point, I'd actually misread that from a different forum where I first saw the news item. I can't say their article title is very good - "Big Buyout On The Horizon?" implies someone will buyout EA, surely?

Crikey, it's almost like you were deflecting my train of thought with your subtly worded question, CrazyTaxi...

It's definitely the kind of job that I could imagine fully well exists. They'd be impossible to track down though because of all the real trolls!

Sorry but this is ridiculous and more than a little paranoid. EA Games? (TIGER WOODS PGA TOUR 13 OUT NOW) would hardly need to employ people to publicise their excellent and high-quality games catalogue (AVAILABLE DIRECT FROM ORIGIN). MASS EFFECT 3™ (RATED 10/10 ON SOME RANDOM GAME SITE) is a future award-winning game and its ending is a wonderful way to finish the series unless you'd also like to buy some excellent DLC (AVAILABLE NOW).

Also, our employees are very happy and love us. Ahem, I mean *their* employees.

                This thread is ridiculous.

You guys should go and play the excellent new game from EA, Mass Effect 3, sequel to the multi-million selling series.

                Then close this libellous nonsense.

I, for one, approve of this and anything else Electronic Arts have done. I've heard that saying good things about ME3's ending on forums gets you free Bioware and Origin points too. Assuming you enjoyed the ending. Please don't do this just to get free stuff because we have no way of telling if you have done this.

That shouldn't be too hard there's only about 1% on this forum who don't routinely slag off EA, bound to be them.

This is all hogwash. That guy was probably paid Activision to say that.
I like the colour on today's banner.

I actually have no idea what is going on. Mind you, I did take a poo halfway through reading this thread and forgot what it was all about.
