Same to you. You are assuming I can't defend, when I can and very well. Tactical defending is something I like, the crap AI is something I don't.
The point is, you are not correct, far from it in fact. It may not be an issue for you, but it is for three of us in the thread and we clearly aren't imagining it.

Im not really bothered if you don't want to believe me out of pride though, that's entirely up to you.

Yes thanks.
Anyway, what AI problems that are actually in the game are player specific I find. For instance playing as Man United online I have a much easier time if I have Evans in my defense in place of Vidic... I think this is probably becuase Evans is a bit faster than Vidic so it's easier to track those pessky forward runners with him. Everyone online is either Man City or Barcelona and those balls through the middle that people like to play kill any defender who doesn't have a bit of pace about him.
It's all actually pretty realistic, I've seen Vidic get ripped apart on numerous occasions by play like it in real life, the game at old Trafford where Liverpool won 4-1 is one such painful memory.Last edited by rmoxon; 16-05-2012, 18:08.

It could do with allowing you to get closer to your opponent and some lateral movement, but the tactical defending mechanic itself is okay, requiring a semblance of skill to tackle rather than just hold down a button. However, the defensive AI doesn't work well in conjunction with it, leading to some major frustrations.
Sure, the AI shouldn't be doing all the work for you, and you should have to shift around yourself a little, but the defensive AI should (at the very least) hold its line appropriately rather than get sucked in by one-two plays or balls over the top. Although, as hoolak mentioned, the latter has quite a bit to do with other aspects of the game, not just the AI. On the other hand, the former (being caught out by one-two plays) is borderline dreadful, and mostly down to the AI not being up to scratch. But, yeah, the attacking AI isn't much better, don't get me started on that.
Skill doesn't really come into it, as it's an issue with the game itself, one that has been acknowledged by the development team in Canada, hence they are trying to improve it for FIFA 13. Yes, attacking AI seems to be the bigger priority going by the information EA has released so far, but that doesn't mean the defensive AI isn't an issue, it most definitely is. That is why the majority of FIFA fans and hardcore community are slightly concerned there isn't a bigger emphasis placed on improving that side of the game too, other than adding lateral movement.Last edited by ezee ryder; 16-05-2012, 18:05.

Well like I already said its a shame that EA are buckling and telling people they are making the game easier just because players couldn't be bothered to Learn how to play the game.
Having said that I think I'm really just annoyed because most people online are rubbish at defending and I beat nearly everyone I play. I might end up not being that good at the next version in comparison to everyone else.Last edited by rmoxon; 16-05-2012, 18:22.

Well, no, they're not buckling or making the game easier. It also has nothing to do with players not being bothered to learn the game. The "played more than you or better than you" willy waving is pointless too. There's an issue with the game itself, in terms AI (attacking and defensive), and EA are attempting to fix it for FIFA 13, quite simple really.
Sure, you might be fine with the sub-par defensive AI as it is in FIFA 12 and beat players regularly online despite it, but I can safely say the majority of the FIFA fans and community are most definitely not. Like I said, after speaking to Aaron McHardy (lead gameplay producer) recently, EA themselves acknowledge the issue, hence they're working on fixing it for FIFA 13. The only concern is that is might not be balanced enough to cope with the new attacking AI.
