    What is the best PSP?

I'm looking for some kind of consistency here which I probably won't get. Being on the look out for a cheap 2nd hand PSP I thought it would be obvious that the latest hardware revision would be the best but it appears to be more complicated than that. I've seen a lot of people prefer the original 1000 for size and build quality while others prefer the 2000 because the 1000 has ghosting issues. Some people say the 3000 is the best while others report interlacing issues and scan lines which keeps them using the 2000 instead. Then there's the general animosity towards the PSPGO with its cramped redesign, reduced screen size and digital only revisions. So confused....

Best screen = psp go (if you don't mind reduced size) otherwise psp 2000
    Best dpad = psp go

Best all round = psp 2000 as umds are cheap now

Interlacing on 3000 is very noticeable and highly annoying. Didnt like the 1000 at all. Dull screen, wobbly dpad, heavy.

The go is actually my favourite but the reduced screen size spoils it somewhat. I'd get a 2000 if I were buying today.

The PSP-3000 screen actually has higher colour depth than the previous models, although it does suffer from the aforementioned slight scanline effect.

To be honest, it's easy to overstate the differences. I have a PSP-3000 and I'm perfectly happy with it. Saying that, you may as well look out for a 2000, though don't feel as if you've messed up if you end up with a 3000.

The 1000 actually feels rather heavy and brick-like compared with the 2000 and 3000, though it also tends to be much cheaper (around ?40 for a preowned one).

If you've got the budget and the digital software the vita does a good job of playing psp stuff and should hopefully only get better with time.

I have a 2000 and a Go. I love the Go and it is my fave out of all the models, but I could not recommend you get one because of the lack of UMD support and the slightly cramped controls.

Over all I would go for the 2000 or 3000 (not seen a 3000) as you have access to all the UMDs and downloads as well.

A 3000 if you prefer the shape and want UMD support. But the design and internal memory makes the Go a great choice

The main reason I don't use a Go is because it is incompatible with earlier versions of Popsloader. That will not affect 99.9% of people, however.

Oh yes, Go is now the best device for running custom firmware too I believe. Really simple to switch between official and custom.

And you can hook up a Dual Shock controller to it. I don't think you can do that one any other PSP or the Vita even. Good for playing Peace Walker and Gran Turismo.

The PSP 1000 screen is shocking, at the time of release I kinda let it go, but its pretty shocking how bad it really is. When using emulators its even worse.

PSP-E1000 screen is better than the Go imo. Best dpad too. No stereo sound or wifi though.

I think I'll pick up a PSPGO. Anyone know what I should expect to pay for one? Typically they have become hard to obtain it seems.

The internal memory is great what with the cost of pro duo cards too. Its worth the hand cramp to have the extra features (it was made for little japanese child hands).

The Go is pretty much obsolete now though isn't it? The vita plays all the same games and it has the advantage of allowing you to Map buttons to the second stick, which makes some games a lot more fun to play.

Is there any real advantage to owning a Go over a Vita? Beyond the price I mean, which is obviously made up for by the fact that the Vita does many other things too.

The Vita doesn't fit in your pocket, though.

Go's advantage is custom firmware and all that allows, native screen res, ability to use Dual Shock and its size.
