I think you need to go back and play the PS version again . The textures are way better , there's better special effects and the frame rate is double that of the PS version . Its better than the way more updates are handle today

I can never get on with Yoshimitsu in Soul Calibur. In PS Tekken 3 > he plays so much better IMHO, one of my favourite characters to use but it took me years to get even vaguely decent with him.

Yoshimitsu's a tricky character to master, but it does seem to be worth trying as he does have a couple of very effective moves; like the one that allows you to teleport behind the other player.

When SC first came out I used to always play as Kilik as he has a massive reach with the staff. However, going back to it now I'm having fun with Mitsurugi and Yoshimitsu - love Mitsurugi's grappling moves.

Your probably right, but can you imagine how awesome they could have made 'the pit of death/lake of death' area had they had more development time and pushed the hardware. It could have looked so much better.

I'm not sure I'm going to stick it out with Soul Reaver, I wish I'd played it back in the day but it wears its PS1 heritage on its sleeves too much and I'm finding it to be a pretty dull and clunky. I can completely see why it was loved at the time though and I imagine it was one hell of an experience in its day but now I think time has caught up too much.

I think the narration and story are fantastic. The combat is nice and meaty too I love the fact that there are no loading times during gameplay!

I hadn't even noticed the lack of loading times

The story was the first thing that grabbed me, if the rumoured revamp happens it'd be brilliant. Though I have the PS2 Soul Reaver 2 lying around also which might be decent to try. I tend to struggle with 32-bit era titles these days.

I've been watching a few of these Dreamcast reviews from the Classic Game Room recently:

Good stuff. Definitely has me interested in a few games that I don't usually play - like Hydro Thunder. Also think I'll be picking up House of the Dead 2 for the Wii; always wanted to have a go on this ever since I saw it on one of those DC promotional vids.

Naka mentioned the second being the best in one of the retro threads. Think I've become accustomed to the graphics now - they do take a bit of getting used to! - and am making progress. Agree about the voice acting. It's been top notch so far.

Yeah Soul Reaver 2 is very good, even today. It looks utterly magnificent and has some amazing textures. Zero loading again and watching the world shift planes is a thing to behold.
Personally I like it the best of all Legacy of Kain titles.

Never played 2, but always wanted to. Had it on order for Ps2 a long time ago but the deal never came through. After that I went next-gen and never really looked for it. If it pops up on PSN as a Ps2 classic I might bite.

The first game was amazin, and it wasn't even finished. Liked it on Ps1, and for DC it was good as well but had already played it a lot. Performance was really good on DC, even better than on my PC.

Have to disagree about Soul Reaver 2 - sure it looks great and the script and voice acting as good as this stuff can get. But all that applies to the original SR on DC too. As far as the gameplay went it had mostly been done better in the first game. The Light/Dark puzzle elements and a couple of the set piece areas reached the same standard but most of it did not. Very linear, a very familar Crystal Dynamics trait, back-tracking to the point of cliche and no boss fights to speak of. It just isn't epic, it feels just like a weak second album despite the long gestation period. No, it just wasn't wasn't as good and most reviewers of the time felt the same. IMHO PS2/Xbox LoK Blood Omen 2 was better although that Crystal Dynamic level design linearity was again very apparent. LoK: Defiance is regarded by fans of the series as the one which regained something of the original SR's scale and epic quality. But I can't comment on that from personal experience as I've been saving it up for the proverbial rainy day.

Well Blood Omen 2 was the worst game in the series by a mile and Defiance while ok, is riddled with glitches and camera issues.

Opinions on set pieces aside, Soul Reaver 2 built an epic gameworld that just drew you in on another level. I would argue that because it is more of the same it perhaps feels less impressive.

I really liked Legacy of Kain: Defiance myself , That game had amazing visuals and sound too

I can't continue with Soul Reaver, I keep finding myself zoning out. To be fair, I'm trying to clock Darksiders at the same time and I think they don't gel well together, I need more contrast so I've put it to the side for now. I plucked out the next disc which turned out to be... Propeller Arena! Fun... very short by the looks... and uber basic.

I didn't even know Propeller Arena had been finished and officially released. But that reminds me about DC Alien Front (Online), one of my earliest imports. I remember the difficultly of the single player game stretching me at the time but I ended up enjoying it a great deal. Never played it online though.Back to LoK discussion: what I really meant to say was that I enjoyed Blood Omen 2 more than SR2. Whether it was better or not is arguable, it was slightly different and perhaps that is the reason I preferred it but neither compares well to the original SR.
