I really feel like starting FFXI up again. Each time I played it I ended up having to deal with something irl and when I'd get back all the people I was playing with would be way ahead and I'd have trouble getting back into it.

I hear a lot about the story being great and I'd love to experience it for myself.

The vid is a big tease, no actual game footage is shown just concept art. The end part was quite funny where he says they have this awesome oil paiting but they aren't going to show it to us.

Lightning can be customised. More than 20 costumes. These change her paremeters.
Unique weapons. Not just reskins, Sword and Shield was shown aswell as a giant 2 handed sword.
Will be a feature to change weapon/equipment loadouts during battle.
"World Driven" is said a lot.
13 days til Armaggeddon, clock counts down to end of the world. Can do stuff to rewind the clock ie killing monsters.
Lightning can perform "Miracles" which use up some time.
People do different things at different times of the day.
Monsters dont come out during the day, small chance to encounter them. Come out at night.
Areas change based on time of day. Example given was you go out during the day and it gets too late, the area blocks you from going back to safety and you have to wait til morning for the way to be accessible again. Plan your route based on time.
Monorails used to travel to far off locations, only run during the day. Mostly during the morning. Will have to wait for them to use them.
Game takes place over 4 different islands, shown in concept art. Called Novus Partus.
Luxerion. Big city. Furniture and artworks all over, even outside. Surreal.
Freedom to explore wherever you want.

So a dev was finally inspired somewhat by majoras mask. Let down by xiii and completely unimpressed by xiii2 so doubt thisll reverse the trend. Shocking that of all the FFs this is the one to recieve this much content/follow ups really

Probably has something to do with the fact the game was in development for so long... They probably had more content than they needed for one game.

Tbh I don't have a problem with the characters or story, it's jus the execution of the game I'm not interested in, no matter how much I want to enjoy it...

Its music isn't even featured in Theatrhythm even though it's well within the anniversary period and, if I remember correctly, it was the return of Uematsu. Weird...

I've often been tempted to give FFXI a go but never did. It has what is easily my favourite FF opening though. When I bought the OST years ago, it came with a DVD with the opening and I must have watched it about 20 times in a row. It's fantastic.
I'm watching it now. It is fantastic. I hope we can get to play FFXIV soon on PS3. Seems more faithful to old-style FF than recent entries in the series (I did enjoy FFXIII later in the game dare I say though).

Could we have a name change for this thread as the game is now called Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII

Anyway, some new info about the game which actually makes it sound pretty interesting:

                      From The Magicbox:

"In the game time management will be one of the key systems, Lightning has 13 days to save the world, each day will be approximately 1 - 2 hours in real time. Players can slow down and speed up the time flow by completing certain tasks such as defeat the enemies. The concept is like a Daruma otoshi toy where you smack the base of the Daruma with a wooden mallet, each part of the game is a different block on the Daruma."

Here are some additional tidbits covered during the Lightning Returns interview with producer Yoshinori Kitase, director Motomu Toriyama, lead designer Yujii Abe, and art director Isamu Kamikokuryou:

                      • The game title was not Final Fantasy XIII-3 because the game will be unique enough to warrant a different name
                      • It is not a direct evolution of XIII-2, instead it is a new experience
                      • XIII is Story Driven, XIII-2 is Player Driven, Lightning Returns is World Driven
                      • The world is constantly shifting and changing, with some drastic, bewildering changes in real-time
                      • It gives a sense of time to players, such that the content may not always be there waiting for them
                      • Lightning's action slowly impact the ticking clock to the end of the world
                      • Lightning's decisions - whether it is defeating a monster or perform a miracle, can slow down or speed up time
                      • Player may not be able to experience everything the first time around, you can unlock new events in the next runs
                      • Yujii wants player to have an experience where they are motivated to play again to find new events

So, Final Fantasy meets Majora's Mask then? Actually I really like what I'm reading here, having a limited amount of time might even make you think which decisions you'll make and give the game a lot of depth.

He wants us 'motivated to play again'? Talk about running before you can walk

They've had time to practise now with the two previous games, maybe this one will finally be a winner?

Will it have an ending, unlike XIII-2?

Maybe they didn't expect anyone to play through that far?
