Petition to remake Resident Evil 2

I know, I know; petitions are worthless, they never work etc. But I don't care; if there's a snowballs chance in hell of getting this made, I'll definitely spend the 3 seconds it takes to sign it, and so should you.

The creator want's the game to remade in the same style as the Gamecube remake of the first game. I too would love such a game, though I think it's more plausible that they would make it more in the vein of Resident Evil 4. I imagine a fully 3D world, with an over-the-shoulder view set within the locations of Resident Evil 2. Hopefully they will try to maintain the pacing and emphasis on exploration, and not making it a linear action game in a police station. A decent compromise must surely be possible. It might not even get a retail release, instead released on SEN and XBLA. As the engine is already in place (whether they use the one from 4 or 6) and all the locations and scenarios are already scripted, making the game is more or less only a case of creating the 3D models for everything, which should make the games budget small enough to be a financial success on those digital platforms.

So, sign the petition, spread the word. Don't stop believing, and so forth.

    Edit:
Should add that this petition was created as a response to Capcom saying that the game could be remade if they saw enough demand for it, giving the petition much more potential than your average online petition.

It's also getting some media coverage. Gametrailers has an article about it, so there's definitely momentum.

I love the original Resident Evil 2, and I would also love a remade version of it. So long as they keep the original camera angles/tank controls.

I'm not sure if there's quite enough demand for it, but I hope so.

Incidentally: A pretty good retrospect on the game at Eurogamer: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/20...-retrospective

It isn't simply a case of making the models in 3D though. REmake was a huge undertaking and it required a lot more than higher poly models.

And if you change the camera you fundamentally change the game design. A RE 4 camera system and combat model requires massive changes in level design and AI. Shooting zombies in a narrow corridor with those mechanics is completely boring (as evidenced by Resident Evil 6). Resident Evil 4 works because the player is placed in a non-linear combat arena and enemies come from all around them; there are multiple ways to approach every combat encounter. Resi 2 with the Resi 4 camera wouldn't be a very good game.

I'm not being defeatist but it really angers me to see people saying "Oh you just need to do X, Y and Z" without thinking about the knock ons and ramifications to the game design and scale of production. The type of remake that is being asked for would have to be a full retail game and that is millions if not tens of millions of dollars.

I would love to see a full remake though, Resi 2 is the game that got me into the series.

I can agree to oversimplifying it. But unless they decide to change the game up, a lot of the work is already done. There is no need for the game to have a budget like any of the modern retail games in the series. Look at games like I Am Alive, Alan Wake's American Nightmare. There's no need to have a higher level of production values than those games, and RE2 has the added benefit of already being written and mapped out. While I don't know the exact number of people who worked on those games, a remake of Resident Evil 2 (like I envision the remake) could easily be done with a similar number of people in less than a year.

And personally, I would find shooting zombies in hallways with Resident Evil 4's controls at least as fun as shooting zombies in hallways with Resident Evil 2's controls. The game isn't really about the action for me.

The chances of a Resi 2 remake being good are pretty much nil. I don't think they'd ever even consider NOT forcing it into a Resi 4 mould. Do they even remember that they made REmake?

Keep it as it is, just upgrade the visuals. RE2 is a perfect embodiment what Resident Evil was all about. RE4 is a completely different type of game. Just keep it at its roots. The perspective, controls, puzzles and suspense. Made the game the best entry in the series.

I'd MUCH have preferred to see Resi 2 get a straight port to the DS, like Resi 1 got.

Puh, you guys still want the tank based movement and no move and shoot? Back then it was almost as if Capcom said survival horror meant surviving the controls rather than the zombies. At least now you can put it down to you being crap at the game if you die rather than blame the impossible camera angles and gun aiming.

What's up with it? I was just playing it on Vita, although just the beginning because it seems I'm now rubbish at RE and can't survive the opening.
