    Your Favourite Rally games!

What are your favourite Rally games and which ones would you recommend to a Rally noob!

Just started playing Sega Rally 2 properly for the first time and I'm absolutely loving it. I only really messed around with the old Colin Mcrae demo's previous to this, so it's a genre I've not really explored.

The only downside I'm finding to Sega Rally 2 is it's not really got much depth (it's just pure arcade fun) so I'm wondering if V-Rally is worth checking out - or is it a bit of a step back?

Sega Rally 2 is not good, one of the worst rally games on a consoles. V-Rally 2 is ok, feels very dated on DC today.
Rallisport Challenge has fans, Charles being one but I personally find it rather simplistic and miles too fast.

I love the WRC series on PS2 the most for serious rally, no 4 is perhaps the best overall game in the franchise. No 2 has absolutely massive stages though and feels different enough to make it worth owning.

Sega Rally on Saturn and PS2 is still fantastic. The PS2 version came with Sega Rally 2006 which despite a lot of popup, is bags of fun to play.

Colin McRae has fans but i've personally never gelled with them after the fantastic first game. For some reason the Xbox/PS2 versions didn't click. The Dirt games are pretty standard stock too with some disgusting OTT lighting in there.

WRC 3 on 360/PS3 has a hugely impressive demo. It should be running at 60fps but it still plays really well and looks nice. The first two games were a bit gash so it is pretty impressive this time around.

Richard Burns Rally on PS2 is meant to be really hardcore, never played it myself.

All I can think of right now.

It is hardcore! Ball-smashingly hard. A real 'achievement' game.

Gaelco's World Rally, which I don't think received a home port. The arcade game was mega though. Played it all the way to France on the ferry!

More gaming gold World Rally this game started off so many spins off

The PS2 version of Sega Rally 95 is still awesome.

Neo Drift Out. Amazing game and one of three AES conversions I did that I regret selling.

I love me some top down rally games. The one I used to play excessively was this old PC DOS game called Rally Sport:

                  Yep, my fave too!

Also had a f/feedback wheel and pedals for it. It was awesome.

Sega Rally 2 is decent enough in my view, and has a sizeable amount of content for an arcade port. It's not a patch on the original game though, and the home port is very poor.

I've never played Richard Burns Rally, but it seems the game has a large fan community who keep the game updated with patches and new content.

What's the verdict on Colin Mcrae Rally 3? just been watching some gameplay vids and I'm really liking the look of it; nice clean presentation, straight forward tweaking, visually it's still lovely looking too. Think I may pick it up along with V Rally 2.

@Shakey. I take it Richard Burns Rally is the closest Rally game that could be considered a sim - looks crazy difficult based on the youtube videos I looked at - lots of restarting!

Impressive stuff that the community has kept it up-to-date.

Watched a review for Sega Rally 2006 last night:

Shame it didn't get a release over here. Would have been interested in going back and playing the spruced up original - surely this should make it's way onto PSN/Live.

Colin Mcrae Rally 2005 arrived today.

Can't wait to give it a go later. Reading a few reviews, it seems to be the last entry in the series which kept the proper WRC feel before it went all American.
