I think that there was not a clearly visible version say alot about the state of any of the tech.

I think it will make it ... just about ... In the end .. by 2014 this game will be making money once people realise what its all about.

Wonder what the stretch goals will be?
Scrap that they already announced them.
We recently announced the first stretch goal and that was to release a Mac version of the game within 3 months of the initial Windows launch if the project reached ?1.4 million. Today we're adding a more modest stretch goal, but one all players can benefit from, more playable ships. Early in the project we revealed there would be 15 playable ships in game, if we reach ?1.5 million with the Kickstarter then we'll add another ten playable ships to the game.

i am looking forward to it be interesting to see what they do after such a long period of time since elite 2 frontiers and first encounters i am hoping it retains the feeling of being in open space and of in a universe (a elite style game i have been playing x3 gets most things right apart from the feeling of open space it feels like sectors)

This game is shaping up to be seriously good .. Currently on the Alpha (pretty much Beta now) and we have a few star systems up and running (out of the 400 billion that will be in the game). Was flying around checking things out and though I would swoop down into a gas giants rings to see what it looked like ...
Simply stunning .. Note that in that picture above there is no skydome (pre-rendered background), there is no placeholders of asteroids, even the stars in the background are particles placed there to be physically correct. What you are seeing is all realtime rendered objects in the game, hundreds of thousands of them. Its quite staggering to do it yourself in game, not seen anything like that in a game ever. It took about 5 minutes to peel my jaw off the floor.
Here's a couple more that see the same place but slightly higher out of the ring system ...
This game is shaping up to be something pretty special ...
