Such as Gran Turismo 4. Problem is 480p looks far superior to 1080i.

I just rung the bloke and he said he's meant to be having a callback from a guy who wants it, but will call and tell me if it's gone or not this evening. Here's hoping, especially as he'll deliver it if I throw a bit of cash his way.

You have me wondering now Speedy. What would changing my geometry do?

Bottom line here is Nocturne is that your LCD doesn't do 576I as a native resolution. Granted a CRT will look better but it's won't beat a PS2 on component for most games if you have a good HD TV.

Can't agree with that. Really, some of the lower res Panny do a nice job though. CRT still have better image and colour though.

I've never seen a HD TV with a better picture than a crt for PS2 and other sd inputs.

I have a 480p Panasonic commercial plasma and you can adjust the image size, when you get 480i to click you can see all the softness and jaggies disappear.

It is the scaling in these displays that is poor, or the fact it is trying to scale something that is a 1:1 pixel.

Simply deinterlacing the image is fine, so as long as you avoid trying to get 480i into 472 lines, or whatever it may be, you can get a fairly decent image on a progressive display.

                          CRT is always best though.

Sharpness to zero, tinker with the contrast, play in 4:3, it'll never look as good as on a CRT but once you get used to that vaguely 'smeary' look you can get with certain games, you kind of stop thinking about it as much. Would it be possible, anyone reckon, to add a mode to HD tellies that simulated a retro TV like feel? PS2 2D games look very nice indeed on my TV but 3D ones are variable. I remember having a **** ASDA 'Luxor' telly that made all my PS2 games look horrendous. Guess it's a minefield of different parameters with no easy answers, really!

Nocturne get yourself to the nearest Loewe Galerie and ask if they have any of their CRT models traded in recently. Then arrange Lyris to come and work his magic on it. Job done. And as a bonus a Loewe set will sound better than any contemporary from the Far East.

                                That sounds cheap.
