At the risk of sounding cliched, "if it ain't broken...". They do their own thing and it has been a tremendous success with the Wii and DS.

When Miyamoto eventually retires from Nintendo, there is a new generation of designers who have worked with and learned from him. They'll be fine.

Regardless of personal opinion, the people of this forum chose it as their favourite game of 2012 (although it was by a small margin). I'm sure mainstream sites will choose massively popular rubbish like Assassin's Creed III as GOTY, but personally, I generally value the opinion of people here higher than the opinion of "average gamer".

And for the record, I've not played ZombiU myself.

Oh I agree with you here. Nintendo manage to do what no one else can. They manage to re-hash a few old franchises over an over again but each time there's just enough there for us (me included) to enjoy playing it and not be overly critical that it's very much like the last one. 2 years after the game's been out it's still ?30 on Amazon and people are still buying it. Sony and MS would love to know the secret. I believe Miyamoto is the secret and nintendo are (quite rightly) trying to bottle up the 'thing' that Miyamoto has so the their future designers can keep it going. The concern though is that at some point Miyamoto will go and we'll have to find out whether his secrets have been successfully passed down!

If ZombiU used a regular controller, it'd be a substandard title. Give it six months and CEX will be stock to the brim with unsellable copies of it. It's pure novelty based upon the GamePad.
          Kept you waiting, huh?

Revelations and MGS3D were both solid titles, but what miffed me was Konami shot themselves in the foot by releasing MGS HD Collection on both home consoles and Vita, it's a bit taking the piss asking 3DS owners to cough up ?30/?40 for MGS3 when you get that plus all the others included in the HD Collection, fair enough it's not in 3D but this will clearly take sales away from the 3DS version.

Isn't this a website started by people who like Japanese games and sensibilities though? I'm only here because last year I was obsessed with Nintendo and researching different Wii consoles lead me here. As much as I like this site it's the last place I'd use for a consensus on the state modern gaming because by our very nature we are a niche.

If Nintendo remain as they are now in 10 years (i.e. not a 3rd Party Dev) it will be because Apple haven't released a living room based system, not because of anything Nintendo do. Microsoft and Sony are paired up for a fight because they do the same thing, others want in on that but what Nintendo are doing with the Wii U is calling Apple out into the car park, they think their great Franchises are enough to be a rival to the iPad etc so they're trying to make "lifestyle products" instead of traditional consoles but what will happen if Nintendo have any real success this generation is Apple will release a TV or a proper Apple TV box that does real gaming and things Nintendo will never have the resources/talents to create and then they will find the people who bought Wiis are a fickle bunch and Nintendo will be stuck with just the SNES/N64 owners on sites like this (well the ones they haven't alienated over the past 2 generations) and children. They'll be competing with LEGO more than Sony/Microsoft.

Yes that was rather stupid of them. MGS 3 on 3DS is however the best version of the lot. The crouch walking that is so integral to stealth was added to this port.

Yeah but you're allowed to own more than one system. I normally buy one system for general games and then Nintendo's system mostly just for their own titles.

I don't find it that hard to stomach paying ?40 for an NSMB game. They're really well made and you don't really get that type of platformer made by many other devs. I don't count Braid or Limbo or Lost Winds in the same category at all. Rayman Origins was brilliant though, I love Michel Ansel's work.

Ridge Racer 7 is pretty much continuously unavailable in over two thirds of CEX branches.

They probably made about 5 copies of it.

That's true but I'm still fairly new to gaming and I like to target games I know I'll love and invest days/weeks completing them so another system would just swamp me especially with the next Xbox and Playstation around the corner. I probably would buy a Wii U as well but NSMBU is just too similar to NSMBW for me really, especially considering I only bought a Wii/played it 16 months ago, Zombi U really disappointed me and even Pikmin 3 (my all time favourite franchise) isn't looking like it's offering much new or is worth buying a second system for. Besides Rayman Legends (which it isn't crazy to hope will be ported to Microsoft consoles soon) I can't even think of a Wii U game out or announced that I want to play and isn't on Xbox but I can think of loads that aren't on Wii U (GTA V, Bioshock Infinite... I won't even go into the great games I'm playing already on 360 that I wouldn't have been able to if I'd bought a Wii U instead of an Xbox 360).

Braid, Fez and Limbo etc are obviously shorter games but my point is for the less than I'd have spent on NSMBU I bought Braid, Limbo, Mark of the Ninja, Fez AND Mega Man 9 (Granted 2 were half price Xbox "Deal of the Days" over Xmas but they cost about ?26 combined). All but 1 scored higher on Metacritic than NSMBU (NSMBU = 84, games mentioned above = 93, 90, 90, 89 and 82) and all have depth (Braid is the shortest but even Speed Running that for achievements has giving me as much in gameplay hours as NSMBW did).

Started out as an import site, but times change. I'd say this place has a pretty large number of people who play pretty much everything and anything and own several different systems so the opinions are generally more objective as there are not that many "fanboys" here who only own a single system and consider it superior to everything else. Except FSW with his PC and Boris with his 360.

It's not that they're shorter, they're just different to Mario. Mario is a true platform game which demands quick reactions and dextrous thumbs, of which there are very very few these days. Braid for example is more of a side scrolling adventure/puzzle game.

You don't need to defend your decision, clearly the 360 and PS3 have way more games that are often vastly cheaper than the Wii U's.

You're basically making my point for me. Nintendo systems are for Nintendo games, for the most part anyway. You have to be prepared to buy a special system to play Mario and Zelda and Pokemon, and I happen to think that's pretty cool. And they're a premium product too, which is why they're so pricey.

To be fair Nintendo games rarely offer much that's new these days. They essentially make the same games over and over again. But I like it. Because they're unique and awesome.

I def agree Rayman Legends will be a timed exclusive.

I don't actually think the Gamepad adds all that much to the game, other than being able to move inventory stuff around and the odd taping to remove barricades etc ... Its a nice addition to the game, but it doesn't 'make' the game. The game works because its the best Zombie survivial game in a long time for me. Not much of a game fair enough, but in no way the 'Red Steel' of the WiiU. Not quite GOTY material but it does what it says on the tin.

But then of course I am trying to justify my WiiU purchase ....
