A shame. In a few years time we'll be telling our kids about the days when Amazon wasn't the only shop.

Sad but after being in a couple of stores over the weekend the signs were there. The blue cross fire sale was very reminiscent of Game last year.

bubbles that link only works if you are FT registered

      this one works

A Canadian private equity firm has bought the debt of struggling music retailer HMV.

They hadn't any stock for a few weeks, I was struggling to spend up all my credit the other day (wanted to get shot of it as I thought this was coming)

Sad but true exact reason I was in to. Stopped some kid trading in his wii u for credit on Sunday (?220 for an 8gb) pretty much explains why they are in trouble.

Same as others like blockbusters had the chance to "own" the future (like Netflix etc) but went too late. Sorry to all the peeps on here that rely on them for an income as its never nice. Hope you all get something quick.

Yeah I had to spend 105 from a gift card. Got some cool stuff I otherwise wouldn't have bought, I suppose. Shame though as I do love the shop. Have some great offers and it is always fun to browse, then buy same off amazon. Guess I was part of the problem, but if it was say a couple of quid more expensive instead of double price I probably would have bought more.

I was reading the other day that the distribution companies would take over. Hopefully something like that can still happen.

The sad thing is, buying a Ps3 the other day was one of my best retail experiences I've ever had, the 2 guys in the Liverpool store were so helpful in finding me a good deal, they even gave me the blue cross sale price the day before it started, saving me ?40.

Then when I went back the next day with my faulty controller (see journey thread) they swapped it over without blinking an eye.

HMV has always had good customer service in my experience. They don't always know their stuff and sometimes don't get the latest games in (Anarchy Reign set down for Jan 2014) but they're always nice and pleasant to deal with. Guess I'll use my ?20 there tomorrow for DmC.

If they have gone into administration, they won't be taking vouchers/credit and they won't have new stock either.

Does this mean I can be the same sort of tosser about it like those that were when Game went into administration last year?

No, because I'm a decent person.

Not good news...missus has a ?40 gift card to try & spend now.

Not sure if it's related or anything but I can't get on the website at the moment...it's timing out.

                          Neil

EDIT - Never mind got on there now.

going to pop into the one tomorrow in Watford to see if i can get a 32GB vita card on their blue cross sale

was going in anyway so just hope they are still open

but i preordered the skyfall steelbook and when i did that i got a 20% off voucher which i used against the partners Ubeats - so pretty much saved ?30 for nothing, maybe thats why the business model failed

Sad news, have had nothing but good experiences shopping at HMV. Soon the High Street will be entirely comprised of pound shops, Primark and people handing out a rainforest's worth of flyers. Can't wait.
