Do you see a super offer on Steam, PSN, XBL or in store that you just "Must buy" but then the games sit unopened or unused.
Do you even buy games that you don't like, but are very popular or critically acclaimed?
I am getting better. But I will need to do a purge soon. I play about 20-30% of the games I purchase and I complete about 2-5%. I am good news for the publishers....
The rules are now as such:
- Only buy games that I really want (It sounds stupid, I know..)
- If I don't click with a game then sell it on immediately
- After finishing a game sell it on straight away
- Agree gaming windows of 4-5 hours with my family if possible once a week. Enjoy a good solid session without feeling guilty or stringing half hour sessions together.
I've finished more games since November than the whole of 2013 and I have managed this in a family friendly manner.
Multiplatform gaming does give a gamer access to all the best games, and if you are financially able, you can end up with all the games on your shelf. For me this stopped being fun and taking them one game at a time an consolidating to PS+/PS4 has been a tremendous boost to my gaming enjoyment.
Good to have the buzz around gaming back.
(Same tactic would work on any platform, but PS4 was out first in Norway)

Play around 20% of the games you purchasewell it's sensible you've stopped doing that. 4 out of 5 games sitting unopened is mental.
I don't like to buy games that I'm not going to devote my full attention to immediately, as it stresses me out to have them lying around losing value. In general though, I don't think that it's that bad to own games you haven't played yet, within reason. It's nice to have a library of games you're going to play in the future, as well as ones you've already played.
Some people like to shift their games on ASAP, which is financially sensible. But building a collection is fun too, as long as it consists of games you really like or are keen to play but are waiting to have the proper time to do it properly.
PS+ I don't worry about. It's like Netflix, it's just a nice service to dip in and out of which doesn't cost very much.

Yeah, and it's gotten a bit out of hand. A good 30 odd on Steam I think(very good games, bioshock, trine, mirrors edge etc), 10 on PSP (silent hill, manhunt, and so on), plus I want to get a 3DS as I think it'll be the last quality handheld ever.
That may not sound like a lot to some on here but these are all games I plan on playing until completion.
Need to make an effort to catch up. I have about 150gb of them installed already just waiting.

I never learn, & end up with a stack of games that need to b played. I buy most when they are half price tho, but since Xmas I've sold a lot off that i know I'm not gonna touch.
I'm even looking at my past collections now, to see what i should finally let go.
Castlevania SOTN can now go as i will never fire up my PSone again & i also have it on Xbox Live. Same goes for MGS, GC Zelda Twilight & others that I'll never touch again.
I've even got factory sealed versions of PS2 Forbidden Siren 2, God of War 2 & Manhunt 2 that i will never play, so they will have to go.

A new generation is also a great way to limit yourself, as the games you want maybe only come out once a month in the start. Remember the xbox360 sales on play.com. 17.99 delivered for almost new games? My collection never recovered that mental time, I hovered up so many games that I just no interest in. I'd read a fan of hardcore JPRG's on here, and be so excited by their love of the game that I bought them too in the sales, convincing myself I'd love it. Then I found out quickly that it still wasn't my cuppa tea.... I have so many Nintendo games like that, games that are classics which I just can't find the motivation to love.
I will ebay the lot soon and will share the sad number of unplaced games with you all, it's shameful really. I did try at least to open the games, but after an hour or two they were never touched again.
I suppose this is borderline mentalist, so I take refuge in not being the only one and hope I can stick to my guns this gen. Big test will be holding off getting an xb1 or upgrading to a new PC. I need to understand that I don't have time to enjoy all games, but can get pleasure reading first play on here and all the positive energy folk have for their gaming.

If you are serious about not overloading on new software, only buy games you are excited about playing immediately, as soon as you get home. Avoid the trap of buying games because they are discounted (you aren't saving money, you are wasting it by buying games you have no time to play).
Lack of motivation to play games comes, in my experience, from owning too much. By that point you are enjoying only the acquisition and when it comes to sitting down to play the game you can't be bothered, because it seems like you will hardly make a dent in the backlog.

I'd say I have at least over a hundred games that I simply haven't played or played for about an hour then forgot about it. I realized this at some point a couple of years ago and stopped buying games relentlessly.
Having the same game on multiple different formats and regions was something I fell foul of too. At one stage I had about six versions of RE2/Biohazard 2 for no apparent reason.
