    The Kings of Current Gen

That common chestnut, your top 10 console/PC games, but at the moment a little more relevant due to where we stand with generations.

On the cusp of a new generation there are a steadily falling number of current gen specific titles on the upcoming schedules, many due in the next few months. One or two games might provoke a rethink of what you post here now but the subject of this gens finest has been common talk of late as Last of Us has led to many discussions on the matter.

Which games to you are the top 10 best games to emerge this generation and why?

To specify, we're only considering titles released for the following formats:

    -Nintendo DS
    -PSP
    -Playstation 3
    -Xbox 360
    -Wii
    -PC from 2007 till 2013

    Nier
    Bayonetta
    TERA
    Street Fighter 4 (series)
    BlazBlue (series)
    Halo Reach
    No More Heroes (PS3)
    Lollipop Chainsaw
    Metal Gear Solid 4
    Bullet Witch

By no means the best I've played (most are) but games I have enjoyed hugely. Silly, stylish, fun, all I want in video games.

I actually msg'd my cousins a little earlier today asking about their best games this gen.

I can't think of 10 right now so I'll add to it as I do.

      Nier
      Bayonetta
      Mirrors Edge
      The Walking Dead
      Siren: Blood Curse

Putting aside technical accomplishments and going for sheer enjoyment, I'd have to say my top 10 would be:

                Uncharted(Series)
As games, they're very good, if not excellent. However, as an experience, I haven't played anything as good as these. The way Naughty Dog manage to draw you in is incredible. I got my copy of the first on the Tuesday before the UK release and had it finished the next day, I was just sucked in.
                Dead Island(Series)
Everything about these games screams budget, but if you look behind that, they're just first person action games that are, quite simply, fun. You know what you're getting and after Uncharted, these have been my favourite games this gen. Plus, it has quite possibly the best theme song of any game ever(Who do you voodoo bitch?)!
                Boku no Natsuyasumi 3
Only in Japan could they release a game where you take control of a little boy on his school holidays. Packed with charm, this was quite literally an adventure. My basic grasp of katakana barely getting me through. So many ways to spend your days. Yes there were scripted events, but you end up wishing it WAS you on that farm. And if you get the 'good' ending, it was actually quite moving.
                Burnout Paradise:
I don't think any game this gen(Apart from blur) has taken up so many hours of my life. Be it going through single player to get my Elite license, or having an 8 player challenges session on a Sunday afternoon, this was just fun. Nothing too technical about the handling - You could barrel roll a copy of the A Team van and land into a drift for f**ks sake! It was a real social game and one where you very rarely got any dickheads joining your game.
                Vanquish
Quite possibly one of the few games I'd give a 10. It seemed to get everything right. It also had a nice learning curve, where as some games are just balls to the wall ****ing hard, this one eased you in before owning you many many times. The finest example to show people who say Japanese devs are crap these days.
                Arkedo Series - 03 Pixel!
Yes, I know it's a dirt cheap PSN/XBLA title, but it shows devs how an old skool platformer should be done. Even on a 51" screen, it looks great. Quite short, but lots of little hidden secrets and collectibles add to the replay value.
                Mirrors Edge
A free running game with combat & gunplay... Sounds cool and it was. Even though I was crap at it, I still enjoyed every minute of it. As well as playing well, it looked stylish and was one of the few games that the general public seemed to ignore, with it going down in price to about 20p within a fortnight of release.
                Resistance
I know some of you will laugh at this, but this was honestly the first FPS I played when I got my PS3. Initially I ignored it in favour of Ridge Racer 7 that I got at the same time. Yeah, it's nothing special, but it introduced me to the genre and although I'm still not a huge FPS fan, I can still tolerate them and it's all down to this.
                Bioshock(Series)
I've only played the first two, but damn they were good. Like with Uncharted, I got drawn into the story and in the case of Bioshock 2, even felt guilty when killing one of the NPC's. I also loved the setting. Rapture was a beautiful city, even as it was decaying. Might have to get the Rapture Edition of the first two games again as I quite fancy another play through.
                Deathsmiles
Now I know I'm not the greatest at these kind of games, infact the only shmup I've ever been any good at is Area 88 on the Super Famicom, so being about to 1cc this was something big for me. Even for shmupspazzers like me, this was an incredibly accessible game with a steady difficulty curve and an easy yet hard scoring hook. I don't think I managed to get more than 100million more than a dozen times, but at least it was doable. I know a few people weren't keen becasue it was easier than Cave's other stuff, but for the average person who enjoys the odd shmup, it was ideal.

I'd say I'm pretty happy with that list for now.

                Close but no cigar:
                Deus EX: HR
                Chromehounds
                Bullet Witch
                Lost Planet
                Minna no Golf 5
                Fallout 3

Yeah it's not been a bad generation at all, I'd say some games lost their impact due to the length of the generation in general... I'd still suggest the last gen remains the best generation of games ever, but of course that's up for debate...

Thinking of some examples at this time of day is not via the most responsive of brains but I'll throw some choices out.

                      Uncharted series
                      God Of War 3
                      The King of Fighters XIII
                      Super Mario Galaxy 1-2
                      The Walking Dead (Telltales Game)
                      Demon's Souls/Dark Souls
                      SSFIV Arcade Edition
                      Blazblue CS: Extend
                      Gears of War
                      Alan Wake
                      MGS 4
                      Valkyria Chronicles
                      Bayonetta
                      Dead Space
                      Resident Evil Revelations

That's an incomplete list for now. May go back and give individual reasons later as super fatigued right now.

                          Tough choice... I'll try:

                          Arkham Asylum
                          Metroid Prime 3
                          Mario Galaxy
                          Twilight Princess
                          Mass Effect Trilogy
                          Smash Bros Brawl
                          Dragon Age Origins
                          No More Heroes
                          Portal 2
                          Red Alert 3

This could very well change as I think about it more. Just remembered I've left our Starcraft 2 and Deus Ex 3...

Demon's Souls is by far the best game that has been released this gen. MALICIOUS is well up there too, as is Dark Mist. MGS4 deserves a mention also.

                              Xbox:
Deadly Premonition - Never before has a game taken me to such highs of hilarity and such depths of despair. All these high budget games going for the cinema experience are totally missing the mark on what will actually affect you emotionally. This nailed it.
Mirrors Edge - Fun, fast, beautiful.
Trials HD - Digital crack, although I didn't like the super tough later levels that had no flow.
Gravitron360 - Thrust remade for the modern world. Totally awesome.
                              Stoked - snowboarding evolved
                              BF3 - scary
Skate - yeah, you could get off your board in the sequels, but they still couldn't better the original

                              Wii:
Sin and Punishment 2 - amazing that they could match the original, let alone beat it!
Ghost Squad - Best light gun shooter ever. One of the best games ever. If you have a Wii and don't have this, you are doing it wrong.

                              DS:
Loopop Cube Lub Salad - fantastic puzzler.
