However just wanted to come back to what I said before, as people everywhere online have misunderstood (including myself initially until I looked into it) - Meta are not killing online games for the Quest 1, or even releases.
not offficaly dropping support no but things like the below for the article i posted a few pages back show that support is being rolled back with certain popular games.

Meta subsidiary BigBox VR announced that it was ending Quest 1 support for its critically-acclaimed VR battle royale shooter Population One. Although the developer offered Quest 1 owners a refund for Population: One, the caveat was that you had to have purchased the game within the past six months of that announcement.
Thats a Meta dev that dropped quest one compatibility last July, if their own dev's wont support the hardware i don't see why anyone else would keep patching in updates and struggling with the quest 1.

I still have doubts about its viability as a platform generally at the moment in terms of full game development that isn’t hugely subsidised by Meta themselves. Have any devs released revenue or sales figures?
The Quest platform (1 and 2) has collectively sold around 15 million units; the unclear bit is how that's divided between the two headsets. That's around the same as the WiiU or the Xbox Series X/S.

As you allude to, though, "how many active users" is more important - because even if we pretend that number's a solid 15 million, that doesn't mean the potential reach of a Quest game is 15 million users. Kinda similar to the Wii, weirdly - in that the Wii sold ~100 million consoles but anecdotally, a large segment had WiiSports and never bought another game.

Bonelab made $1 million in its first hour on sale. But that's obviously a vanity metric; I've no idea what the revenue looks like for a genuinely successful Quest 2 game.

Talking of scat pictures and banning made my Mod-Sense tingle.

VR game development is so indie/small dev based with any real investment from larger companies having all but vanished that it paints a picture of how small the audience sizes are without needing specific figures. Anecdotally I would find it easy to imagine that the vast majority of Quest sales lie with the Quest 2, but even then the volume of passive accounts will be vast and then there's the split of that userbase across titles.

The main thing in the Quest 1's favour is that whilst VR tech has progressed it's almost a universal rule now that hardly any software makes use of the advancements. Online gaming will be incredibly small also, so control support for new games should largely be safe with DLC being the biggest question mark.

It's like how there is talk about things like eye tracking etc. All impressive but I would imagine in reality you'll be able to mangle one hand and still count on your fingers the amount of games that will use it. The Quest 1 is just on the side that it should largely be okay for a while yet thanks to the Quest 2 tech level becoming the default standard devs aim for because they can't afford not to.

I just completed Rez Infinite on my Quest 2 and the experience is unlike anything you get anywhere else, from any medium.

The only comparable sensation I can compare it to, is a mixture of taking acid in relation to the disconnected yet connected feeling you get, combined with seeing Dark Knight in IMAX for sheer room filling sensory overload, spliced with sex and the feeling you got when you first saw games running in 3D.

Far too much information I grant you, but Rez was a transformative game back in the day, now it's just mind bending in VR. A brief reminder that despite the issues with 3D and VR, their is not a single 2D game that comes close to the feeling you get when you play / experience a made for VR game. And that was all quite a shock considering I picked it up on a whim for £7.99 on a Friday night.

                And Area X?

And BallisticNG if you like Wip3out. There’s nothing quite like sitting cross-legged in the middle of your floor with the ship and canopy turned off. You ARE the ship! The acceleration sensation is stronger than being launched in a performance line Tesla, it feels like your consciousness is left back on the starting grid every time and takes a few seconds to catch up.

Ah, ****. There is no Quest version yet - sorry!

Ohh, thanks for the tip! I totally forgot about this release, have added it to my Steam wish list!

Quick jump in here to say - this does not work properly with the Quest 2/SteamVR. I've tried it, even asked for help on the Subreddit. It's the only SteamVR game which has ever given me trouble. It doesn't recognise the controllers, but it recognises they exist so it won't recognise my Xbox 360 pad either. Real shame too as I wanted to try it.

Bugger! No worries and thanks for the heads up about the incompatibility.

                            Have you tried Redout?
Redout is a tribute to the old racing monsters such as F-Zero, WipeOut, Rollcage, and POD. It is designed to be an uncompromising, fast, tough and satisfying driving experience, soaked in that vertigo that stands at the core of the arcade racing genre.

                            There is a demo.

Granted you need a beefy GFX card to get a visually pleasing and respectable frame rate.
The controls on the other hand are marvellous once you get to grips with them.
