As a follower of VR and its culture since reading cyberpunk books in the early 90s, the adult applications of VR are a part of the picture. In particular I was keen to check that stuff out, because there's the perception in tech that porn gets to everything first; first to really embrace videotape, fast to make use of the internet, quick to push for technologies to allow people to pay for stuff online with credit cards, eager to work with streaming video to make adult content more accessible... They say this is because the porn industry has no shame; like they have no reputation to defend so they'll try anything. So you can learn a lot by what they do and don't do.
But from that limited look into the adult content, I don't think that's gonna take off in its present form. The whole thing is so... Awkward. I think it needs to be very different. But there's a lot of research going into two areas; AI and virtual erotic experiences, which in theory would make them fully interactive (not just wraparound videos) and I honestly think, while it's still some way off, someone in that area is going to make a breakthrough eventually and get very rich, very fast.
