It's going to be atleast £800, don't kid yourself here, it's aimed at PC gamers and Valve aren't chasing the Quest market.

When it's announced everyone will want to know the key questions answer

Does it launch alongside Half-Life Alyx 2

If not then it's teh d00m3d. There's a chance too as it isn't a threequal!

I'd be 99% sure that's what "Project White Sands" is.

That would be great and given Valve's past comments on the franchise it would make more sense than Half-Life 3. There's quite a lot of room to take Alyx and advance it forward in game design whereas Valve seems very hung up on the idea of HL3 needing a similar jump but without something like VR that's a harder proposition.

Fun and challenging swordplay can't make up for bland and repetitive action between behemoths, making this far from the epic adventure it wants to be.

I sympathise with the reviewer, too, about the checkpoints. I had the same problem with Warhammer 40,000: Battle Sister in VR, where one of the final bosses requires you to use a not-immediately-obvious mechanic. It only took me 3 attempts but each of the two retries, the checkpoint was placed before the boss's whole preamble, and frankly, when I'd already been on my feet for 2hrs playing the game, I almost decided to scrap the whole thing. If you were being coerced to play the game, like a reviewer typically is, then it'd probably be infuriating.

I'll still get it, because I suspect the issues will be ironed out. But it remains to be said, I suspect some people are going to have a similar reaction to this that some had for Horizon: Call of the Mountain; in that case, they wanted a VR Horizon game and in this case, people kinda want something akin to Skyrim, and in both cases they've got a largely linear game with the typical things we have in VR games; climbing, sword fighting, there's probably a bow and arrow...

My nephew is getting a Meta Quest 3 for Christmas.
As I am the 'uncle' who knows about games my sister has put me in charge of purchasing games. I'm not had much dabbling with VR.

                  So after any advice..
                  Some criteria:
                  He is 15
Think I should be looking for a couple of things to showcase the thing- 'experiences' (I know my mate had the original PSVR and there was the shark thing which was impressive at the time!!)
Some family stuff- it's Christmas after all.

                  Any help appreciated!

I'm so behind on VR atm but by the sounds Batman will nail the 'game' whilst Beat Saber is always the go to everyone adores. Experience wise I'm not sure there's too much more than there was with PSVR1 so dabbling with the free stuff should do the job without having to shell out for 20 minute titles.

To echo Neon, Beat Saber and Batman are great places to start.

Star Wars: Vader Immortal and Tales from Galaxy's Edge are great if he's a Star Wars fan (though not so much if he isn't.

If you've got family at Christmas who want to try it, Richie's Plank Experience is a must-have.

I haven’t been wowed by Batman at all.

But Beat Saber I think is a must have. I would also add The Climb 2 which is a real visual showcase and a great experience especially if you’re pretty new to VR. For family stuff, the Job or Vacation Simulator is a bit of a laugh in VR.

Thanks everyone, will check them out.
Would the monthly subscription (Meta Quest +) be something I should explore?

If it still comes with the free months with the headset it's worth signing up for, they expanded the games available in a Game Pass like pool, rather than just the two titles a month, but I didn't think it was worth continuing paying for. It'll be worth a month to try a few games you might want to buy to keep.

Along with the above Samba de Amigo, Pistol Whip and Superhot are worth a look.

Really surprised to not see you guys playing Alien Rogue Incursion on VR, keep seeing impressions and vids of this and it looks like loads of fun.
