it might not do a great deal, but it seems like you are cutting off your nose to spite your face to go out of your way to disable it altogether because it does so little, why not just let it do what it does?
I still actually quite like what my kinect does and of course it could be better, but I do make use of the things it does do well.

The PC version of Minecraft is superior to any console version, with practically infinite-sized worlds.
That's before you do anything else that boosts the draw/render distance whilst adding FSAA, which worked a treat on my laptop at 1080p and 60fps (something silly like 180fps with V-sync off).
Mine only begins to falter when I start experimenting with shaders.

If kinect is setup badly it's crap. Simple. If it's eyes and ears aren't optimum you can forget it. In my lounge I've got a massive coffee table in the way which cuts off its view of my legs. I've got hardwood floors which reflect light upwards and it cannot always see the floor. Finally I've got a projector setup so most of my gaming is done in low light or darkness and my speakers are large and placed in each corner so the acoustics are pretty loud.
When I first got the Xbox One it just didn't work. Out of the box it was hit and miss. I spent time to record the speaker test at its loudest allowed setting with background noise. I moved my table so it could see my floor and basically I went to great lengths to help it calibrate.
Since doing that and returning everything to its original position... It's been excellent. Signs me in, in the dark... In a matter of seconds. Hears me over most volumes well. In fact the only thing it struggles with now is my accent but I can cure that by setting it to UK locale (not ideal for me).
What that gives me is a kinect that works 9/10 for voice control. Works perfect for gestures and generally makes the UI of the console simple to use. All searches work fine for me. The only thing I want them to tweak now is supporting accents and different pronunciations across territories.
Maybe you've got an accent it struggles with? If so try changing regions and calibrating it. A small bit of time setting it up can yield a world of difference in recognition.

what are you using Kinect for Boris? i am curious. Youtube is pretty much my main activity on Xbox One - so maybe i have missed some mind changing experiences with Kinect.

i did the initial Kinect calibration and voice recognition works pretty well for me in both German and English setup. it's just pretty much pointless for me to voice command "Xbox go to Youtube" only to find me confronted with the crappy controller input for the content search anyway. for me Kinect would make perfect sense if i could use my Xbox One Youtube app completely without a controller. but that's not the case. so if i need my controller anyway why should i bother with Kinect, especially since i don't play any games with it?

I use Kinect for Skype, Just Dance, Voice Controls, Jet Ski demo, soon Kinect Sports Rivals. It's not ground braking but if I got a PS4 I would have had to buy the camera to play motion control games anyway and the Kinect is far better piece of tech than the PS4 camera.
Works really well for Skyping family in the UK.
Also in Tomb Raider I have found sometimes I said a weapon name quickly to switch which worked nicely.
Seriously though bring back Fruit Ninja Kinect and that is its purpose justified right there.

I was on about using Bing searches. Does the YouTube search not support Kinect?
To be honest I haven't bothered with YT on Xbox One. I have very little use for it. It might be worth checking whether it has the same synch function as the 360 version. Where you can search on your phone / tablet and then send it up to the Xbox to view in TV. A bit like Apple TV remote play.
