i switched back to the default HDMI cable that came with the Xbox One and voila Blu-ray playback is working again... HDMI auto and TV playback is also working all of a sudden. all this problems just because i didn't use the crappy Xbox HDMI cable?

The Crappy 4k rated cable that they tested to ensure it would work?

You got owned by Microsoft it appears.

HDMI handshake should work with every half decent HDMI cable, regardless of specification. and why should i use a 4K-ready HDMI cable if the Xbox even struggles with 1080p and there is still no disc based 4K-content available? to make HDMI 1.4 mandatory for Blu-ray and TV playback doesn't make much sense and i doubt this is intended by MS.

My PS4 does this with some of my HDMI cables. So I expect it's some kind of HDMI standard.

There are actually 5 different grades of HDMI cable according to HDMI.org, perhaps the one you are using (which you said was 1.3) falls into the "standard" category.

Just in case no one knows this weekend is a free CoD MP weekend, you can download Multiplayer online demo (think its around 10gb and play online, has a few game types and modes available to play.

Got a spare beta key for project spark if anyone wants it? Got a key months ago, but received an email with another today.

                Edit: key sent to MrTickle

Just read the email properly, there's another four codes to share , surely there will be more keys than people who want them at this rate .

HDMI 1.3 falls into the standard category. but this doesn't help explain why my HDMI 1.3 cable's handshake stopped working after the recent update. i take it it's a bug because i don't see why the Xbox One should just work with 4K cables all of a sudden.

Maybe it was a bug that it worked in the first place?

Likely. Like when ps3 temporarily accidentally allowed sacd playback via optical.

again, why would they make HDMI 1.4 mandatory for Blu-ray playback when using an AVR? this would just be stupid. but then again it would somehow be fitting for Microsoft...

                            right, thank you anyway!

                            update:
it seems the handshake problems remains, even with the default Xbox One HDMI cable. but i can solve it by reconnecting the HDMI cable.

I think this is what...? 5 hours? Titanfall, 61% installed. FFS. Should be done for when I get up in the morning.
