That's the thing, isn't it. Direct hardware comparisons between the PC and consoles aren't so useful not only because consoles are closed, fixed spec so developers have greater room to optimise, but developers are able to code at a much lower level.

Mind you, GDDR5 must surely beat existing PC main RAM speeds.

If it were on Titan levels you guys would have 1080p60.

It's funny how people keep going on about ?349 when you'll need a further ?40 odd quid to get the most out of the promised ps4 exclusives.
Some people like myself are clearly disappointed about the power of these supposedly next gen consoles, others are frothing with excitement. That's pretty much it really. I'll wait a while until there's stuff worth playing.

Curious, what for? It comes with everything you need bar a game, as far as I'm aware.

Games like driveclub and shadowfall are being sold on their multiplayer components that you now need to pay for (unless I'm missing something). So you're immediately looking at a price closer to ?400. At least psn+ potentially cushions that, but the cost is still there.

The online subscription services work similarly to the existing Xbox Live service in it's pricing, so you can pay monthly. It's a valid point, although it's just the way things are going because Sony and Microsoft run the dedicated servers (rather than the users themselves like on the PC). To Sony's credit, they do try to offset this with the free games offered over PS+.

I personally have no interest in online play, but I recognise that I'm in the minority.

Regardless the subs model it's still more money to get th most out of certain games. I'd imagine driveclub will be pretty **** without it, and i wouldnt be surprised if all this video sharing they are both pushing is also built into the online costs. Still, at least we are getting different coloured achievements...

Exactly and there went plenty of console cross overs to the PC in the so called classic age - quite a few Dreamcast (well most of SEGA DC games) and XBox games made the jump for staters and I also guess because console versions of Doom, Duke Nuke, Quake 1 and 2 all suffered in comparison to their PC counters parts , meant to the consoles were ****

I mean the DC couldn't even handle PC's Quake 3 60 fps , never mind screen Res of the PC versions and the less said about the PS2 version of Unreal Tournament the better and those were meant to be super consoles

MP3 & CD support to be added.

So it wasn't because the laser hardware literally can't do it then....

Don't care about MP3 or CD. What about DLNA? much more useful to the majority these days I'd have thought.

Apparently 3D BR isn't supported either.

This is turning in to the typical Sony launch

On another site...kotaku or Eurogamer, can't remember which, that interview is typed as "DLNA and MP3" will be patched in. No mention of CDs

really is more of another nail in 3d blurays coffin than anything else, hopefully this will see an end to the current 3d fad, until we get 3d in a lounge that works for everyone, doesn't require wearing a pair of glasses over your normal glasses, or make people feel sick, or get eye strain, or compromise the quality of the standard screen, i doubt it will ever take off on a massive scale.

Oculus Rift is a far better use of 3d than the current cinema and TV experience say goodbye 3D BR i hardly knew you or cared about you I'm sure all ten of its current users will be up in arms about the lack of ps4 support.

3D in the home works perfectly adequately for Blu-Rays. I'm personally not keen on it for games at all, but I've changed my views on 3D to some extent due to the quality of Panasonic's Active Shutter sets.

If you're a bit of a home cinema enthusiast and get pleasure from watching movies in the way which they were intended for the cinema, then it works very well. If I want to watch a recent popcorn movie that was in 3D at the cinema, I'll watch it in 3D at home. And it actually looks better to my mind.

Eye strain and motion sickness are not a big issue (unless you are one of the few people who are particularly badly affected) because, just like the cinema, you're merely occasionally watching for 90 - 180 minutes at a time.*

It's a fairly niche product though and that's probably a big reason why there's no support at launch on the new systems.

Sure, but we are a long way off people watching movies with VR goggles on. The fixed nature of shots in films (and the frequently social nature of watching them) means that VR goggles have limited utility for this purpose for the time being.

Don't be *that guy* that wants a product he doesn't like to be discontinued. That's just spiteful. Don't like it, don't use it. Simple innit.

*unless you're Kryss and you watch 10 3D movies a day
