I think I'm going to steer clear of any more PS4 news online. I'm going to wait until I have my unit in my house where I can experience things for myself.

Getting fed up with all this "it doesn't do this" or "that looks a bit dopey" bull****!

Apparently there's a few of the units out there that have just stopped working etc.

One of Kotaku's never worked at all (faulty HDMI port). There's a few detailed in this thread. http://ps3trophies.com/forums/genera...ady-broke.html hopefully this is very limited.

hopefully Teddy won't return to the thread and say "I kept to my media blackout, but the. When I plugged it in, it didn't do anything at all!"

I'm sure the console fail stories will be everywhere next week, they are at every launch. Hopefully things settle down though, at the moment too many sites are trying to judge both systems worth completely too early. It's like trying to set in stone the PS3's lifetime worth based purely on Resistance or the 360's purely by Perfect Dark Zero. Both will put out many classic games and visuals far beyond what we're seeing now. Looking forward to seeing what comes as the 360 and PS3 where massively incremental at launch but we've seen some cracking things since.

The ps4 is, unarguably (unless you have a total non understanding of graphics technology) considerably more powerful than Xbox one. This is a hardware fact and will remain true for the lifetime of both consoles. Lots of other issues factor into console games but this power advantage is a fact and is visible on all the multiplatform launch games. Xbox does have a trick up its sleeve to help narrow the gap but that SRAM cache will never bring it up to ps4 power.

Some people note that in screenshots xbox versions of games look 'crisper'. In these instances 'crisper' is a sharpening algorithm applied to lower resolution image. When you actually see the games running on real hardware I predict that the word used to describe the difference between the two will be grainier, not sharper. The photographers on here will know about this. Applying sharpening algorithms to photos must be done with care, and it appears so far as though xbox's algorithm is quite aggressive.

It's not even Christmas yet but here comes the Playstation Grinch. Is it not possible to put "The ps4 is, unarguably considerably more powerful than Xbox one" in a signature to save you having to type it in every post?

And yet its not considerably powerful enough to run something as ropey as Knack at a solid 60fps!

I've not seen any shots with edge enhancement/sharpening on it. I hope to god what you said was just made up, as I cannot be doing with any post processing sharpening.

Crysis is a bugger for having all of its textures run through a sharpening filter, that's not happening in real time though.

Which are these screenshots you speak of?

Not screenshots, I mean the xbox up scaler. It's been reported everywhere that it applies sharpening as well. I think digital foundry pointed it but I might be wrong. Got most of that info from posts on gaf. The latest cod info on ps4 being 720p though throws absolutely everything into doubt now though.

Aye. The screenshots of that on Xbox and PS3 are pixel for pixel identical, I couldn't see any sharpening going on there.

                            On SonyGAF? Yeah great.

Can't say it shows on any of the various recent HQ MS Twitch streams, How come none of the people at these Xbox One Tour events have noticed it either?

The TVs used at the tours had sharpness turned up to like 1000, but the direct feed footage I've seen doesn't look like that at all.

I can't find any primary source for a sharpening filter being present in the scaler, but a few people are speculating that Battlefield 4 has something funky going on, that may be title specific though.

Was likely bf4 that I caught wind of it as that was the first big gaf story. Who can we trust these days? Digital Foundry don't know what they're talking about, other review sites are seeing what they think they ought to see. It's all a bit of a mess.
