I just KNEW they would find another way to flog the same stuff to us again with bells and whistles on top, this generation. So now instead of a HD version of a game, it's even more HD and smoother running... (Or whatever it is).

I will be interested to see how much better it all runs, but there is no way I would want to buy this game again, even if it was a budget release. There is just so much still for me to play, without having to replay something again...

They've been doing this since last gen... just wasn't usually quite as cheeky as to ask for full price (which this seems to be).

Nintendo asked full price for the likes of Zelda , SEGA did the same with Resident Evil 2 on the DC (ok it came with a nice demo too ) . Don't think this anything new , or don't get why people get so upset (other than yet another excuse to kick the next gen) more so when a new TombRaider is couple of years away

This doesn't even feel like Zelda HD update or one of those similar rereleases because it's so close to the original release. If anything, this just seems like a natural continuation of a multi format release strategy and so why shouldn't it be full price? It's a full game.

Fair point and its nothing new . Soul Reaver was full price for the DC and the same goes for Rayman 2 on the DC . Just seems like people either are wearing their rose tinted glasses or just finding anything they can to kick the next gen

Or that next gen is actually a bit pants at the moment.

Eidos speak out in defence of their decision for the re-release.

Tomb Raider on PS4, Xbox One Not a Simple 'Facelift'
Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition will please newcomers and veterans alike
                  .
Tomb Raider is making the jump to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in the Definitive Edition, and will be more than just a "facelift," according to a Crystal Dynamics producer.

"...We're selling it on a new platform, with a lot of development work put in to custom craft it for the new platforms," Scott Amos, executive producer, said on the Eidos forums. "With the new additions for the aesthetic, the physics, the particles, the lighting - taking advantage of next-gen features - so I absolutely stand by our decision to offer up Definitive Edition the way we are."
The Definitive Edition has been updated specifically for the new consoles, and will include the Tomb of the Lost Adventurer DLC, six outfits for Lara, a digital mini art book and a digital comic titled The Beginning. Square Enix said Lara was obsessively detailed for the DE, as the game will run at native 1080p resolution.

"We'd love for every Tomb Raider fan to get to experience it on next-gen," Amos writes. "We are definitely looking to draw in those folks who may not have experience it yet on the last generation so they can experience this version on next-generation.

"But even for existing hardcore fans, we are confident in the offering we have as an excellent enhanced experience above and beyond what we'd previously provided."

Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition releases Jan. 28, 2014 for $59.99 US.

If the base game already exists, and is going cheap on other machines(including pc which can look the very best), then this makes no sense.

?49.99 for a straight port of a game from last year??? If ps4 and Xbone are close to pc hardware, then what have they actually done to warrant ?49.99???

I think publishers are clearly doing it to try and make the current ?49.99 price point stick for a long time....i cant see that happening lol.

                    ?29.99 or GTF.

Hope people avoid this like the plague...

To be honest, I think these games will come down in price pretty quick. It was only a few months TR on PS3/360 became ?15 in supermarkets.

Lara's hair is more shiny now due to TressFX technology, it must be worth 50 quid now. http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/20...ft-dev-insists. Obviously its a cut and facelift job, i wonder if it doesnt sell 1 million copies on Xbone & PS4 will it get canned? They should have spent the money on some SP quests and be really controversial and put some Tombs in it.

                          We'll I've pre-ordered it.

?45 on ShopTo plus I have ?10 worth of points to use which makes it ?35. I only ever paid ?15 for it pre-owned on PS3 so I don't feel ripped off.

Why not leave it until it's reduced? You're nuts paying top dollar for a graphical update.

Yeah, agree, I want to get this...but not for ?49.99.

I own the Survival Edition on the 360 and really enjoyed it.

But I'm in no rush to pay nearly ?50 for a game I've already played. For that reason, I can wait and get it later.

I think a ?29.99 price tag would have been fair.

I guess they are initially targeting those who haven't played the game at all. Hoping to cash in with them. Some kind of money off scheme for existing owners would have been helpful to drive sales though for people who have already played it.

It's essentially a hd update, like a PS2 classic. Nobody would accept those at ?50.
