What were the best games you played this generation that you are angry other people didn't play? These are the little gams that touched you and made this gen special. You took a chance on something others overlooked and find something that brought joy and enriched your lives.
We've already covered Nier, Deadly Premonition and Demon's/Dark Souls extensively so let's not retread old ground. Let's dig deeper and show some love for games that never get it.
I have a couple:
Majin and the Forsaken Kingdom
Majin is a beautiful little fairytale of a game. An Ico esque puzzle platformer that features a sneaky, agile playable character and a hulking companion that smashes obstacles and fights enemies for you. The game is lightly Metroidvania in structure and each little area is built around a puzzle, be in environmental or combat based. You are looking to rid the land of evil (naturally) and you guide the hulking Majin around as a tool (he has various abilities to get you through the levels) and friend. The game has a charming fantasy aesthetic and Majin can be cute as hell. You form a great bond with the creature and become really attached. The platforming and combat feel like they fell out of a PS2 era game IN ALL THE RIGHT WAYS. The game isn't stellar but boy was I surprised and entralled by it.
Silent Hill Downpour
This game is a truly hidden gem. The best bits of the game are hidden behind a very rote first 3 hours which is linear and full of missed notes. Once you get into open world Silent Hill proper, the game becomes much more free form and enjoyable. The game doesn't hold your hand very much and while most of the jump scares fall flat, the sheer creepiness of limited resources and no one telling you where to go had me the most scared I've been since Condemned. The end is rushed and the point of no return is poorly sign posted, some of the 'dungeons' aren't super hot and the enemies aren't exactly inspired but this can be really good survival horror. Stick with it and it may gel with you.
