The best games of this generation you idiots didn't play.

What were the best games you played this generation that you are angry other people didn't play? These are the little gams that touched you and made this gen special. You took a chance on something others overlooked and find something that brought joy and enriched your lives.

We've already covered Nier, Deadly Premonition and Demon's/Dark Souls extensively so let's not retread old ground. Let's dig deeper and show some love for games that never get it.

    I have a couple:

    Majin and the Forsaken Kingdom

Majin is a beautiful little fairytale of a game. An Ico esque puzzle platformer that features a sneaky, agile playable character and a hulking companion that smashes obstacles and fights enemies for you. The game is lightly Metroidvania in structure and each little area is built around a puzzle, be in environmental or combat based. You are looking to rid the land of evil (naturally) and you guide the hulking Majin around as a tool (he has various abilities to get you through the levels) and friend. The game has a charming fantasy aesthetic and Majin can be cute as hell. You form a great bond with the creature and become really attached. The platforming and combat feel like they fell out of a PS2 era game IN ALL THE RIGHT WAYS. The game isn't stellar but boy was I surprised and entralled by it.

    Silent Hill Downpour

This game is a truly hidden gem. The best bits of the game are hidden behind a very rote first 3 hours which is linear and full of missed notes. Once you get into open world Silent Hill proper, the game becomes much more free form and enjoyable. The game doesn't hold your hand very much and while most of the jump scares fall flat, the sheer creepiness of limited resources and no one telling you where to go had me the most scared I've been since Condemned. The end is rushed and the point of no return is poorly sign posted, some of the 'dungeons' aren't super hot and the enemies aren't exactly inspired but this can be really good survival horror. Stick with it and it may gel with you.

Good topic. I'll base my games on those that hardly anyone on here played:

    Chivalry
First person Medieval Combat. Brutal and hilarious

    Day Z
Survival Simulator with Zombies. Some of the best online experiences I've ever had. Every day was a new adventure.

    Resistance 3
An outstanding FPS, made even better with Move controls. Ignored by many because of the poor second Resistance title.

And finally I suspect that Tearaway may fall into this category as well, which will be a terrible shame.

BulletStorm. Bonkersly feckin' over the top fun shooty bang bang action with a wry sense of humour and vicious weapons.

      Loved it!!

Alice: Madness Returns. I don't care what you say, I thought it was alright.
        Kept you waiting, huh?

Uh you do realise DayZ is played by a large number of people?

As for R3, it has solid ideas but the campaign became tedious after about halfway through. A symptom shared by most modern fps titles. I wanted to take on one of those giant walkers!

I enjoyed Alice as well. Glad someone else did.

Gravitron360 - my attempts to get people to try this brilliant arcade game have largely fallen deaf ears. It's out on the PC too I believe as Gravitron 2 and there's a PC update called Gravitron Ultra.

THIS GAME IS 65p on XBLIG - it requires skill and dexterity. It's visually attractive. I'd pay ?9.99 to play this. It's polished.

If anyone decides to go for it (and I presume you are all reaching for your Xbox360 power buttons right now yeah???), make sure you set controls to scheme C (or D) for the authentic "Thrust" movement.

                Binary Domain

Great action title that borrows the best bits from the likes of Gears, mix it with a Terminator and BladeRunner plots add in Ninja Gaiden 2 style dismemberment and some classic boss battles and its a great game, sadly overlooked by many .

                Project Sylpheed

Brilliant game and with some of the best space battles this side of Wing Commander

                The Darkness

Just one cool and classy game

                Fear

One of the best FPS I've ever played with some of the best (if not the best) firefights and AI seen in any shooter

                  Killzone Mercenary

It's been ages since I've played a game on a handheld and my jaw is just open with amazement for what they pulled off. How the hell the devs have raised the bar like this is just beyond me. I know the future is facebook games and angry birds, and I also know that the respected journos like Edge would argue that cut down FPS on mobile is not what we want, but for me I just had an hour whilst my kid had her childrens TV time and I got to enjoy my hobby with a massive smile on my face.

                  Tearaway

This game just gets better and better. My girls (10/6) are loving taking turns, drawing, opening, blowing and pushing this imaginative world. Suddenly the touch, gyro, camera and rear touch systems don't feel like a gimmick or afterthought, they are seamlessly and wonderfully a core part of the game.

It has been ages since I have played such a sweet enjoyable video game, and on current impressions this is up there with my fave Nintendo games.

I think capcom_suicide just pointed out we could probably link to any list of good PS Vita games for the best games people haven't played. I certainly suspect Tearaway and Persona 4: Golden are the best games I've never played.

Also I noticed the other day nobody in my XBL contacts has played Costume Quest, Stacking or The Cave which feels like a shame...

Based on 10+ years of reading peoples impressions on these boards, I honestly believe that KZM/Tareaway would bring a good deal of pleasure to my fellow forumites, and based by 1st play/Vita sales, I also believe only a small fraction of the boards will actually experience them. You can get a Vita + Tareaway for ?130 in the UK. Go for it!

                        Retro/Grade. (PC/PS3)

Was given away free on PS+ and still no one cared.
Music rhythm game where you pilot a ship from end to start, backwards. Thought it was a unique idea, played like a music rhythm game.

                        The Adventures of Shuggy (PC/XBLA)
2D screen to screen based levels, puzzles and platformer. Ever changing mechanics including time rewind, swinging rope and more.
Really enjoyed my plathrough and cool little co-op game too.

                        Outland (XBLA/PSN)
2d platformer from Housemarque, with Ikaruga like swapping and metroid-esque exploring.
Really nice game, hopefully one day Ubi/Housemarque revisit.

Also totally agree with joe and chopemon about Alice, said as much in the first play thread.

If there was a game that pushed vita in my mind, it was tearaway.
Will probably pick up the fat PS4/Vita bundle for Christmas.

Then again, when's it coming to PS+ for free?
That probably explains lack of sales and people picking it up.

Tearaway is only ?20 anyway, from PSN or shops. Just buy it! I'm almost tempted to use the old cliche - it's the best game Nintendo never made - but that does the game a disservice because it's its own thing. Has media Molecule written all over it.

NiEr should be played by everyone at least once in their lives.
