    My friend loved that.

However, he played the game incorrectly which led to him spending about 40 hours more than he should have, apparently.

You need to upgrade your weapons and he was levelling instead - or something. I forget the specifics. I have a copy in the house so it'll get a play eventually. Think it was like ?6 in CeX. Can't say no to that.

      Lost Planet 2

In one level you fight huge monsters in a snow storm. In another level you are grappling between speeding trains. In another level you are cooperatively loading shells called Devil Roars into and firing an artillery gun on a train at a huge sand worm. In another level you perform a mechanised beach assault against and enemy fortress. In another level you perform mech combat in low gravity on a space station.

Lost Planet 2 has real charm and some really unique levels. The story is fantastically overacted Japanese melodrama but it is kept out of the set pieces. Which is to say other than end of level cutscenes, you do all the cool **** yourself. You disengage train cars to slam into the monsters, you fall to the ground after a four legged Dilophosaurus smashes the tower you are in as it tries to get at you.

The single player is cool but the coop is fantastic. The levels are frantic run and gun battles against snow pirates, mechs and huge aliens. The grapple allows you to traverse the levels in unorthodox ways and there are brilliant moments of team work. It also looks great with amazing particle effects. One of my favourite shooters of this gen.

wasn't it a dog in single player i heard you needed three good friends to get through it, as the computer AI was garbage and the difficulty was favoured more towards four people playing?. The bad reviews always put me off despite the first being one of my fave early xbox games, i never finish co-op stuff I'm still only half way through portal 2 as i cant find someone skilled enough to play though it with me.

Only if you really suck at 3rd person shooters. I played it 2-player with a mate, we didn't have any problems.

It also features one of coolest, most original looking military-scifi character/mech art/design.

The only level that is a pain in single player is the train gun because there are so many jobs to do; collect shells, charge shells, load shells, rotate the gun, fire the gun and use the coolant system to put out fires. I had to jump online to do that one mission but as soon as you have even one more player, you're golden.

I enjoyed LP2 right up until the utter gash last level. Rest was aces.

Another BIG fan of Lost Planet 2 here! Co-op was sublime.

As Chopster says, the variation in levels was astonishing and the mech merging sequence was brilliantly indulgent!

I love the Gamesradar review which summarised the game by saying, if you like this picture, this game is for you:
