The comedy handling makes obeying the traffic laws a complete nightmare in the GTA series, doesn't it? (yes I am that sad to occasionally try). Super Runabout: San Francisco Edition on the Dreamcast is much better for that, plus its actually a fairly good model of the city.

Why no proper driving simulator?

No turbos, no powerslides, just good old fashioned safe driving and following Highway Code stuff. You could actually have a "proper" driving test which must be passed before you can go onto the rest of the game. Objectives could be mundane - much in the same way as Tokyo Bus Guide where doing things properly is the goal.
The operation of the manual gears could include use of the GC/XB analogue triggers to replicate a clutch system which has to be used whenever changing gear.
Yes, I'm bored.About the only way I'd ever even think og buying something like that is if the environments were exotic locales and rendered with exquisite detail. Other than that, I can get in my own car, thankee-sai.

If it's a real driving sim you're after then it's got to be Tokyo Bus Guide. It may not be a car but it's as real as you can get on a console. I love the game on the Dreamcast. The arcade version really kicks arse though because you are given a FULL sized bus wheel to controll the bus. THere's nothing like spining the whel a full 360' to turn a corner

Whilst on the suface, it dound like an idea as dull as dishwater, there might be something in it. I'm another person who loved Tokyo Bus Guide, and although I've not had the chance to play Densha De Go! I've got a copy of MS Train Sim :geek: and enjoy shunting around on that, so I hardly see why it wouldn't work. It would have to have a wide variety of tasks that most people wouldn't have a chance to do in every day driving. Say, driving an articulated lorry, and having to make deliveries on time, whilst not breaking any traffic laws, or maybe having to drive a JCB of simmilar vehicle round a building site?

Is the online play that good? And finally, what kinda system specs do you need to run the game at a decent speed?

Ill be honest, ive thought about this myself.
I personally love my tokyo bus guide on the dc, and a real life driving sim with accurately modeled cities could be quite fun.
OR
If it was realistic enough, it could be used to teach people how to drive, and GCSE students could say spend 50 mins every week, in a lesson, "playing" this driving game.
It could be sneaky to integrate gaming into classrooms perhaps?
Still an interesting idea.
It could also be helped to plan road trips.
Drive down I80 in the USA in game, or up a winding japanese mountain road, before going on holiday and doing it for real.
