I have finally seen some ps4 games like BF4/KZ Shadowfall running and graphically i can see what the fuss is about. Even comparing versions of COD ghosts (from ps3 - ps4) there is a massive improvement in detail, clarity and image quality.
Exactly, I'm enjoying reading about this and learn quite a bit too. I don't think there's any fanyboyism in the comparisons either. Why are those who don't like this sort of discussion even posting here trying to put a stop to it?

A bigger concern to me is the framerate. Recently I've been playing more and more on PC and I've gotten used to playing in 60fps. Looking at console Mass Effect now for instance it's the framerate which really puts me off.

I've read that thief on PS4 struggles to maintain 30fps @1080 whilst the XB1 is fine at 900p.
Resolution is great but not at any expense.

Thief struggles on every platform! It's just technically bad

The point is, it could possibly less 'bad' on PS4 if 1080p wasn't a goal.

Very true. I wonder if they saw that 1080p seemed fairly common on PS4 and felt that they had to be able to make that claim, clearly to the overall detriment of the final product.

I would agree that if they really can't maintain 30fps, they should at least aim for framerate and resolution parity with the One version.

People make a big deal about 1080p on the PS4, but typically in contexts where the One is unable to achieve it at the same framerate.

I posted this in the xbo thread, guess I should have posted it in here.

Bethesda confirms native resolution and frame-rate for upcoming action game will be identical for competing platforms.

^My assumption/hope is that resolution/framerate discussion isn't suddenly banned from other threads!

I'd rather bad framerates on a few current games that stick to a target 1080p, because eventually(hopefully) they may look to scale in other area's where small virtually imperceivable differences in settings can mean decent fps at 1080p.

Good old id! 60fps on 360 and ps3 too, although presumably at a lower resolution. Game looks pretty good too. Long term I think we'll see Xbone games hitting 1080/60 much more often. It's definitely a treat having full res and framerate.

1080p / 60 is just a marketing tool this gen.

Most of the 60fps games barely hit 60fps anyway for the bulk of the game.
They've probably just done this then it will turn out that both versions of the game run under 60fps and the xbox one version is actually 1080p wireframe.

It seems that the issue with Thief is a bit more complicated than assumed. Looks like it's a bit of a mess.

Better late than never, Eidos Montreal's rebooted Thief has been lying in wait since as early as 2008, where multiple r…

Many players will notice frame-rate drops, but this in fact stems from an issue in frame-pacing. As seen with Need for Speed: Rivals (before it was patched), a game can average out at 30fps, but by displaying frames in an uneven, off-kilter pattern the motion of the image still appears far from smooth. In other words, a typical 30fps title outputs a unique frame followed by a duplicate, and repeats this sequence over and over, creating a consistent experience. In Thief's case, we get two or more unique frames in a row, followed by a matching number duplicate frames to average this out.
both Xbox One and PS4 succumb to stunning lows in response, with a nadir of 200ms as we move into new areas.
Each version is guilty of genuine frame-rate drops too, especially when traversing main roads in The City. This manifests more aggressively on Microsoft's platform, where drops down to 20fps are possible, as compared to 25fps on PS4 - but in amongst the frame-pacing issues this is trivial.

Neogaf is actually going nuts because DF have recommended the Xbox One version over the PS4 as it looks better.

Either way, the game is tragic in this regards.

The Xbone does look slightly better. One poorly optimised game does not mean the platform is doomed.

It's just a badly made game all round.
It's only just acceptable on Xbox One!
