    Finally happened?

Has anyone else finally become completely accustomed to the graphical level of games?

It's very strange, for YEARS I was completely fine with PS2 to say, Doom 3 level visuals - that's a good 14 years!

It's not been until very recent playing Crysis 2 and Arkham City on pc have I decided we really are in need of another serious jump graphically.

I've seen the PS4 running in shops now and it's just not that impressive. When the Dreamcast came out people we're climbing over each other just to get a look. Nobody was even playing on the PS4 or xbox?

I haven't been wowed with a modern game for ages. Not because the jumps aren't big or anything but with the PS2/Xbox era, we had richly detail 3D worlds updating at 30+ frames per second. Another bugbear is that we started to see really interactive worlds on that generation and it seemed to go backward on the PS360 generation.

For me, the current generation finally gives developers the power needed to match the jump in resolution to create the worlds first hinted at in 1999 and on.

I think beyond two souls is the last game that made me go wow, butostly because I didn't think the ps3 ha it in itself to do such beautiful visuals... But yeah I have not been moved by any of the latest new gen visuals... Not even tomb raider.

I agree...i think that the next gen actually could have been left another couple of years to ensure that level of aesthetic leap.

Saying that though it was a pleasure playing BF4 when it worked.

Charles promised me that'd make the front page with accompanying article.

Fair point to raise Kit but can you throw some ideas out for how you'd like to see developers wow you in the graphics and/or presentation department?

I get that what you're describing is that graphically games have generally plateaued out and save for the likes of Journey, Shadow of the Colossus, Dark Souls et al., most titles follow set formulas when it comes to presentation and appearance.

Still, in my book you wont get much prettier looking 2D fighters than The King of Fighters XIII, SFIII: Third Strike and Vampire Saviour. Anyone who can improve on those three can take all my money (that I don't currently have).

Every console game I play looks arse compared to PC versions - though that's a given. Art direction goes a lot further for me when speaking of graphics. Since Wind Waker I can't think of much that has seriously wowed me, perhaps Okami?

The closer and closer we get to achieving realism the less I care. Games aren't about realism for me.

                        Legend of Raven? Maybe?

I mean for next gen console, I know there is a PC version.

Yatagarsu has nowhere near the visual polish of the above mentioned games.

                            Not even close.

It's certainly harder to be impressed but we'll likely never have the massive leaps we once did. The range of details and effects 16bit had over 8bit felt clear, the arrival of 3D with 32bit was huge, the freedom of Mario 64 was a simply epic defining moment. After that it got more and more incremental. The arrival of PS3 and 360 was no different to now, hugely disappointing visuals bar Uncharted for the first 12 months as companies let the arrival of HDTV carry the systems. Mostly the same now but the power is clearly in there and once games stopped being shackled to last gen versions we'll start seeing some real eye candy.
