Nintendo can never part ways with the (systematically numbered) Nintendo EAD groups, that was my grounds for comparison. I'm only being pedantic anyway, I like pointing out that Microsoft and Sony don't make games - they simply buy or hire people that do.
But Ninty employ devs all the time? its not the same 5 programmers that started out there?, they still need to hire new staff on a regular basis so whats the difference? In fact if they took there heads out there arses they would see employing some more devs to get more games out might just be beneficial to them, just maybe.

Of course people will come and go, but it's not like the whole team will just pack up and leave collectively, or get sold off. That happened with Rare and Bungie, and could happen in the future with Retro, Naughty Dog or 343.

Actually, their seniors that head the EAD groups are part of the furniture - despite it being a questionable work culture there. I remember the stories of Mario 64 development 'breaking' many members of the team.

Seriously, what games have Microsoft ever made besides Solitaire and Minesweeper? That's two more than Sony, at least...

LocoRoco, Echochrome, Ape Escape, Patapon, Ico, shadow of the colossus, gran turismo. All in house Sony Japan who have all been there since the plantations inception. I'm not sure how much more in house they can get?

I'm sure there's plenty more they have done as well just from that studio.

As for ninty, I'm sure there's plenty of people ready to get up and go from their in house devs, with zero sign of any new franchises in the works there's probably quite a few creatively starved people there. I'm not saying it will, but it's a distinct possibility.

Oh yeah. I suppose I'll allow those.

            What about M$?

I'm just in Sonys corner on this, there's no defence for MS lack of permanent in house studios. The ones they have had, ensemble etc, they've just disbanded anyway.

I see no difference between MS and EA in this respect. No permanency and an apparent waste of talent that they have on ridiculous projects. I set the 360 up at the weekend and when I fired it up I was hit immediately by the very worst things about this console: Those poxy avatars.

That's the emotion I get from them, you nailed it. No permanency.

Somehow I think this drifted off topic in page 2 but regardless the main point of the question do I still currently buy previous gen games then I would say yes if there was no next gen version available and it was a game I will still keen to play. In general I tend to give the previous generation about a year or two before it goes into storage with the only real exception out of the consoles I own still being the Xbox as they killed it off almost when the Xbox 360 came out.

I slightly agree with sentiments about the Xbox 360, pretty much the changing face of the interface and MS's push to casualise the console has meant I find it hard to be bothered to turn it on and be confronted by junk and adverts.

I'm going to amend my original answer slightly. Having seen footage of Murdered, Wolfenstein, Sniper Elite 3 and Evil Within... None of them look remotely next gen in their updated ports so gonna get the current gen versions as in some cases the price differences are getting pretty steep. There's near ?20 between Sniper Elite 3 on PS4 to PS3!

That doesn't matter the EAD Teams could just leave together in their lines and set up their own business should they wish, much like the Golden Eye line of Rare left to set up FRD and so on also the likes of Turn 10, 348, Black Tusk, Polyphony Digital and Most of Sony Japan were not hired , but set up In-House .
You need to remember that Nintendo it's self had to higher in Talent once (no different from MS or SONY ) , it was after all only a Card maker and even some of its biggest games like Donkey Kong weren't made In-House .

Only the likes of Atari were all about and only about computer/video games from the company inception
