Much, MUCH better. Us here, Gaf and Digital Foundry will bemoan the lack of 1080p but the scores will be high and people will buy. I should seriously be in charge of all videogame big decisions.
I don't think developers really think "rock-solid 30fps" is better anyway; it's marketing spin. They're trying to spin a negative thing in a positive light.

EDIT: I should state that racing games of this nature are a particularly specific case, for me. I feel that driving games that are based on tarmac racing and supposed to have a measure of realism peaked last gen, with titles like GRID, the PGR games and even Forza etc. Like the handling might get more detailed, or the environments might get prettier, but I already think the handling of those games is amazing and the environments look great, so simply making those things better yields no interest for me, and I'm not a car fanatic either so a new fleet of licenced cars does nothing either. What I want to see is stuff like higher framerates, real-time weather that changes along with time-of-day (everything from parched desert sun to arctic conditions), off-road racing with better physics for things like damage - even stuff like scrub and foliage that gets pushed aside when you race through it. Stuff that actually moves things forward; not just a higher res, more detailed (visually) version of the previous game.

Agreed (I think). Gran Turismo 5 already looked like real life and ran at 1280 x 1080 and 60fps. So we're asking for a 50% horizontal res increase on the new hardware (I'm not exaggerating when I say that this arrives for free with room left over) and the rest of the effort spent on actual meaningful stuff e.g. ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE FFS! This really shouldn't be an issue.

Except GT5 isn't open world like this is....

I thoroughly enjoyed the original and had absolutely no issue with how it looked or handled. The only game of this type I can think of that delivered full 60fps and was great to play is Burnout Paradise. Would I prefer 60fps? Of course, but if the devs have a plan and have settled on 30 with a resolution of 1080p, given their last efforts I'm happy with that.

Come on seriously? It doesn't look like real life any more than Forza does. Besides it may look good, but it still plays like arse.

Yes it does. I've seen footage that I couldn't distinguish from real racing.
As a racer it is total arse, I agree there but visually there was little need for improvement.

Whilst I don't agree it looks in any way real, I understand the point that in the end, some games do not benefit from greatly enhanced graphics. As I said in the DriveClub thread, whats the point in having all these intricate details when you are flying past at over 100mph, really seems pointless to me. As long as it looks good enough, thats all that matters.

I didn't try Horizon 1 - can I ask, does this look similar? Watched the 2nd vid and it looks rather dull in terms of driving skill and no real pressure with the availability of a rewind button option (obviously not available online though) - wish that had never been invented - removes all the excitement.

Could just be the course being too straight though and other course will be more fun. Good float at speed over bumps.

Yes. In FH1 you would drive about the open world with an option to start an event amongst other options.

I couldn't really tell from that vid, but I'm sure the graphics are better here, and the wheather dynamic could really be fun if it changes the road grip and visibility etc.

I thought the first one was a solid game although the world was bland in comparison to TDU, but at it's best in the non-race events (loved the race against the plane etc.). But tbf I never took it online with others.

I know it's not the ethos of the game, but would love it to have police and people walking around in particular areas. Just feel like more of a world.

                      Looks good fun though.

If you have people walking around you could run them over...I would guess its for a reason like Burnout Paradise, where the motorbike crashes had no rider shown to keep the age rating down.

There was one game, think it was the original Midtown Madness, where the people would always dive out of the way in a slightly comical fashion.

I don't know, just the original was missing something for me personally. A very good game but one I got bored of far more quickly than I expected too.

Forza Horizon had some random micro transactions to unlock the map didn't it?
