Thinking of Jacking this PS4 / Xbox One Generation in?

I let my PS3 go a few months ago and brought a PS4, along with Metal Gear Solid Ground Zeroes and Battlefield 4. All was well at the start, it produced beautiful graphics and the scope of Battlefield 4 and MGS was awe inspiring, the connectivity with sharing was wonderful and it felt like a refinement of what had gone before.

Now I've completed MGS, played 30 hours + of online BF4 and have been hanging on for new game announcements, I'm left wanting. Every generation has had a lull after launch but this could prove to be unlike any other time in history, games take a long time to be made now and all the games that were going to be released at the end of the year are now pushing into next year. E3 could show some unexpected releases, but listening to Giantbomb, they believe no big hitters will be released this year, possibly none till Q3 - Q4 2015.

I'm seriously considering jacking my PS4 in and picking up a 360 so I can play some actual games I've not played before. It really feels like there's nothing of real worth being released for the next 1 - 2 years! The Dreamcast was released and culled during that time frame!

Anyone else thinking of going back to the previous generation? Project Gotham Racing 4, F1 2013 Complete Edition, Marble Blast Ultra and several hundred games are calling me...

This is why you shouldn't sell your old consoles. But yes, you should get a 360 and PS3 and play some old stuff you missed. Fill the gap.

No need to jack in, you can buy a steady stream of games again on PS4.

Tomb Raider, GTAV, Last Of Us, Metro 2033

All the games are coming back, ready for you to pay for them one more time.

Hell you already jacked in this gen when you nought next gen. You have a next gen last gen machine!

We all win! No losers here!*

              Hehe! Me too.

I wouldn't get rid of it - you'll end up spending more in the long run when a game comes out you want and you rebut the system.

I think things will be OK. The current lull is a symptom of all the doom and gloom that was present on the usual news sites long before either consoles launched, about how consoles were "over" and mobile was the future of gaming. People really bought into it and many expected the new consoles to have a very slow start.

Remember, a lull in game releases for AAA consoles is never indicative of how things are now - rather you have to look at how things were 18 months to two years ago, as titles need time to "spin up".

Compared to those predictions, the PS4 and Xbox One have both sold incredibly well. Aren't there supposed to be 10 million users or so between them already? So a title like Watch Dogs could expect to sell 3-4 million units if it does well, which puts things in the territory for more games to come out. The problem was that it didn't look like that was going to be the case 2 years ago.

To be honest i would say sell it now as you would get nearly what u paid for it.

Plus if u then wait i guarantee when the games do come the ps4/xbox1 will be cheaper and probably more reliable with cheaper games to

I think ive bought every major console release since the mega cd

                    But I still don't own a PS4 or XBone

I just don't see the point when my ps3 is still doing the business even though I'm currently playing doom collection

Personally i wouldnt 'jack' anything in (unless your skint and need the money). There are great games for all the consoles. Watchdogs on the ps4 is amazing.

You'll get the most milage in retro though, over anything post 2005

I think the massive lull this generation has seen isn't helped by development time of the big games taking most houses a lot longer than planned.
Hopefully E3 next week will announce some games we'll see soon not in 2015.

I was tempted by the Wii U but I think it'll have the problem the Wii had, no releases for years and then the occasional brilliant game like Galaxy.

That's what I'm thinking. I only have one current generation console in the house because if I had them all, I would build my collection and not play anything. I've done it time and time again over the years so despite some reselling, this is the best way to keep myself in check. And the reality is there's no must have game for either console and won't be for some time.

I just want to play so damn good games!
