SNES all the way, but i loved the Megadrive as well. A friend had the Neo Geo with King of the Monsters 2, was amazing to play it at home on a big TV at the time

Look at that SNES line up, it's insane. Nintendo will never get it that right again, in fact I doubt any company could.

Loved the MD too, and although there are some brilliant games in that list, they don't compare year for year with the SNES. Poor old NEO, a system I adore, but apart from NAM 1975 that year one list is utter pish. I don't know how anyone stomached forking out ?200 a cart back in those days for that stuff.

If Nintendo can just do a remake of that SNES first year for their next console launch (if there is one) = win

I had no idea Nintendo released THAT many top games during the first year. Don't think any console has ever had a better first year of games has it? What a year of gaming it was.

Well it wasn't just Nintendo but a number of 3rd parties too , konami were almost as good as NCL in those days .

I have to say that the XBox is right up there imo . Its 1st year line up was mighty as well

The reason it was such a good year was because most of that list had been drip fed for two and a half years in Japan before being rapid-fired in the West. There are even more great games which didn't make that list.

Imagine if we didn't get the WiiU until it was 30 months old.

Well, there are 17 games in that SNES list I like. From the Wii U library I think there are three games I like the look of, maybe four at a push and it's been out 18 months. To be fair I don't know what's lined up for it in the next year, but it's not looking good for matching that SNES list in any way, for me personally at least.

How many of those are arcade ports though?

Apologies for the j0e Musashi-like pedantry, but why is Neo Geo alongside the SNES and MD?

                      If anything, it was 24-bit.

Finer points aside that SNES list is truely amazing. Nintendo should have that list printed and hung on every toilet door, just in case people start to loose focus......

Based on the games listed, this one has to be utter domination by the SNES, surely? Will be very interested to hear the opinions of anyone thinking otherwise mind you, but can't see it happening.

So you are in the store on launch day with enough money to buy a SNES and 4 games. Which of those beautifully colourful rectangular boxes would you by? For me:-

                              Super Mario World
                              Super Mario Kart
                              Pilot Wings
Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past

I have a massive smile now just thinking about walking home with that lot and playing them for the first time.
