That's the key difference with SNES, how late it came along, which gave Nintendo a lot of prep time and a good read of the market. It also gives a strong case for them leading heavy with their games initially rather than drip feeding the market. Their next system should launch with Smas Bros, Mario, Zelda and Mario Kart in the first year to cause a boom in sales and attract third parties to support the later years.

I can't believe that there were so few games in the first year for the MD. Going by those lists it's a no brainer for the SNES. Mainly thanks to the efforts of Konami. And that's a few years after the MD launched. It would be interesting to see the list of MD games the year the SFC launched.

Super Mario World
Super Mario Kart
Pilot Wings
Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past
I have a massive smile now just thinking about walking home with that lot and playing them for the first time.
Super Mario Kart
Contra 3
Final Fight
Pilot Wings
And I'd have got Super Mario World free with the system.
