Feel Old!

I hope my kid turns out like Dylan, he knows what's up. Most of the kids in these videos are surprisingly kind to old technology and make a lot of good points, but when they talking about preferring to play "games" or apps on an ipad, it makes me feel a little ill. It's funny to think that games for something as technologically inferior as the Game Boy are infinitely more complex than ridiculous million-selling apps like Flappy Bird or whatever.

In 20 years I'm sure we will be relying on gestures and voice

I feel bad for the kidz, because to some of them, the best gaming they'll ever experience is Angry Birds.

As a kid, some mates and I found a bunch of Sinclair ZX-81's in the back of a cupboard in our school workshop. Given, they were effectively useless by then (this would've been 1997 or so) but even so, I would never have called them "junk". I was fascinated to see what people had to deal with on these older machines, even if only for a few evenings.
Then again, it's probably a sign of changing times. I still had old Tiger Electronics games etc. when I was 10-11 in the mid-90s, and those were very "out of date". Even I knew that they were far from the latest technology, but that didn't affect my ability to enjoy the experience they offered.
Kids like that one, I fully expect you'd give him a Beatles record and a player, and he'd call it "junk" before even spending a minute or two to listen to it.

Even when I had a Mega Drive I still had some of my most fun playing a monochrome version of Asteroids and basic Tempest conversion on the PC, which were way before my time. I don't think it's right to excuse such snap judgements so easily. Teaching kids to be open minded is an important part of building an intelligent human being.
