While Nintendo apparently doesn't sell at a loss, I'd find it interesting if someone got an emulator for a loss-leading console and then bought games for it because then they'd be giving the manufacturer more money than someone who did buy the console

Of course, there's other money to be made from their online stores and micro transactions that an emulator user won't have access to but I think it'd be an interesting situation.

a work colleague (who knows nothing about gaming), just bought his son a wii u bundle for xmas and wasnt too pleased to hear there were basically no more games coming out for it; at least he can enjoy a decent back catalogue.

That's assuming that said colleague hasn't gone and got a refund, of course...

i think his sons a big mariokart fan - so he said he will keep. Nintendo are cheeky *u*ts though, still charging full price for that system, given the circumstances.

They're doing the same for the 3DS, and what's coming out for that? Fire Emblem and, umm...

I agree. And for scrapping the cheaper white Basic 8GB Wii U as well.

...Etrian Odyssey, Dragon Quest 7&8, Hyrule Warriors, Yokai Watch, Metroid. (Not exactly looking forward to the last one, mind you.)

It doesn't look great yet, certainly, but the finished article might have more spit and polish. Either way, Twilight Princess is my favourite entry in the series and I welcome the opportunity to replay the adventure in HD, and if I'm honest the prospect of revisiting the fishing pond alone is enough for me.

The number of people who would do this is so slim as to make it negligible. The vast majority of people who would bother to setup the emulator would be downloading disc images, not buying games.

Even if they did buy some games, the manufacturer would, as you point out, lose out on the opportunity to sell them accessories, downloadable games, DLC, and the yearly online service subscription. So they would still be getting ripped off big time.

Downloading games for a system like the WiiU that's currently on the market is just being a pikey IMO. I've pirated games in the past, I'm sure we all have, but it's ultimately wrong. For any discontinued system it's by and large fine in my book, although it's more of a grey area when there is a paid downloadable version readily available on a modern console/PC.

I agree. By the by, I think there was an emulator that only worked with retail games(maybe Bleem) but I digress.

There are plenty, if you think about it - such as buying PS1 games on PS3/4/P/Vita.

TP is all kinds of aces. Boasts amazing dungeons and a very oppressive style. Loved it. HD? HMmm but that box is nice.

I reckon I have over 50 wiiU games and prob not touched on about 20 of em other than a quick 30 minute blast and i have several still sealed (the joys of playing destiny religlously over the last year followed by fallout4) but looking at what we as wiiU owners still have to look forward too apart from Starfox, the TP Zelda remake and possibly that new Zelda (is that still even certain for release on wiiU?) I really have no idea of anything else decent due for release, i hope im mistaken and theres a few I dont know of but I dont think so..
