Still think it's objectively one of the best things on the Wii U, though.
Yeah, I feel you. I got it with the fear that it might be a fun pick-up and play game for some Mario goodness but it ultimately lacks the continuity and achievements that I feel are currently a necessity in Mario games. I love Super Mario World because of this, and also Super Mario 3D World because of the sense of completion. I definitely lack the time or interest to build levels; I'm not into game development at all, unfortunately. I learned that the "hard" way...

I always just think of Mario Maker as the "game" where people make the most difficult level possible that takes people 10,000+ attempts to complete.

For example this 50 second level just blows your mind with the perfection/luck needed

I absolutely love that Mario Maker has legitimised the Mario romhacking scene. I've not even opened my copy of the game yet but I've watched hours of people tackling these super-difficult levels like the one above; I love seeing how far the game can be pushed.

But it's so much more than that, it's a game, it's a course creator, it's inspired it's own silly and joyous community, from hardcore, bastard hard levels to levels filled with such brilliant creativity, it's made levels better than Nintendo's best.

I've never understood the backlash for this game. The past few years where the 360 and PS3 died out and the PS4 and Xbox One were barren wastelands, Mario Maker burst out of nowhere. I got a Wii U just for this game and it made me come out of the gaming boredom I was stuck in. The Retrogamer Review that gave it 6/10 (Or something similar) made me realise something. The older community who are my age but more cynical or more unwilling to embrace change are stuck in the past. Mario Maker was born out of Nintendo seeing the Rom Hack community making hilarious levels but nintendo have taken that idea and created one of the best Videogames ever created.

I was able to make the levels I always wanted to make when I used to sketch Super Mario Bros. 3 levels in my Maths book and it's taught me things about the Mario toolset I never even knew existed back in the day. It's a brilliant Videogame, the idea people say it's not even a Videogame baffles me and makes me want to say you should pack away your controller, the game is too bright for you.

No backlash here, just disinterest. Admittedly I was intrigued so I gave it a shot. I think it was quite clear from the start what it was so any backlash is unwarranted.

Such a shame Wii U prices are still so high. Best deal at moment really is ?219

(ignoring impossible to find Argos deals outside Scotland).

Really want to pick one up again and yes shouldn't have sold mine 18 months ago.

lol, I remember how I got my WiiU + zombiU for ?199 at HMV a few months after launch, when everyone thought that the console was dead. It is quiet unbelievable that it was less expensive during that period compare to today, mind you, appearently nintendo have stopped manufacturing the console for a long period now.

btw tesco direct are selling the 32gb version+ mario kart for ?199 atm

Some older WiiU units are more expensive as they have a lower firmware and can run pirated ISOs.

I picked up another Wii U yesterday. Had all three latest gen consoles and sold them on, but back to the Wii U fold, will tide me over until the NX arrives.

                      Back to Mario Maker....

Sod that. Excellent comment on Eurogamer

I managed to pre order my special ed really early then got it for ?36 under amazon's pre order guarantee. Don't understand why more people don't do this, you can cancel at any time but you're always going to pay the lower price it was advertised for.

That is a hell of a deal. I'm not that patient and picked up a mint boxes one with Mario Kart for ?155 on Gumtree locally. The basic one, wanted a white one this time around. Have plenty of storage devices, Wii Motes and sensor bars in the house already.

My copy of Twilight Princess has dispatched from TheGameCollection.

Looking forward to getting stuck into that. I never finished it on the Wii.

Pokken Tournament in a couple of weeks too.

                                Decent month for the WiiU.
