Again, I'm not so sure and I think that's a bit harsh on Iwata-san.

Yamauchi-san may well have had a say in the DS as that came about in 2004. The Wii was released in 2006 - it was still a year off being fully realized and released by the time Yamauchi-san left.

And does Yamauchi-san really get the credit for the later DS hardware iterations, such as the DS Lite, that really ignited the DS platform's sales?

I think in the case of the Wii still yes, the development cycle of new systems is so long that Yamauchi had to be involved. Nintendo started work apparently as early as 2001 on it and it was revealed 18 months before release.

Even the DS iterations where a continuation of what had been done with, and been successful with, the Game Boys before it.

I don't lay the blame at Iwata's feet for Nintendo's current status as I think that they'd have hit a brick wall after Wii regardless. But there's an issue over whether he is able to recognise the trouble their facing in the home market and nothing about the WiiU suggest lessons have been learnt. That's why I think the NX is key for him as if it repeats history in anyway, I just don't see him lasting.

Iwata-san has certainly rode his luck, even hardware revisions were totally standard before Iwata-san took charge.

You can't lay the blame at any one persons feet in an old school company like Nintendo. Anyone high up enough has enough say so to pretty much put a stop to someone else's plans.

Hell, even reggie filis aims is probably little more than a spokes person with little say so in to the future decisions or any real power to do much.

The iron clad decision making went with Yamuchi and will never return.

What dose everyone think about the new wiiu zelda being bumped out of 2015? and a ready when its ready approach to its development being put in place, I have to say I'm a little disappointed that we wont be seeing it this year. what's lined up for Christmas 2015 on the wiiu now?

it wont be at E3 either https://twitter.com/NintendoAmerica/...79256704081920

It makes me regret my console purchase more.

I'm not at all surprised and, to be honest, I'm not really disappointed either. Personally speaking, I've got tonnes of games to get through already and I wouldn't get round to this until next year anyway, had it come out this year.

What it means for Nintendo and, more pertinently, the Wii U in broader terms, who knows? Nintendo haven't exactly won over the mainstream this time round, like they did with the Wii, so the majority of people who own a Wii U are either "core" gamers or Nintendo nuts. Can anyone in either category be truly surprised by this delay? The wider world doesn't seem to give two hoots about Wii U, much like Nintendo.

Given the amount of time these games need to be developed it should of been expected surely? As long as good games come out who cares.

Then you were kidding yourselves. Especially given the development time needed to make games like that.

As long as good games come out it doesn't matter to me how long they take.
The inevitable chorus of "ZOMG! Nintendo have won E3" from the Nintendo faithful on the back of a farting non-trailer of some kind of Starfox demo that is sort of in development was as amusing as it was depressing. This company just cannot do wrong in some peoples' eyes.

But you're dead right: games take time to develop these days, simple as that. If you want a good game, you have to wait for it. As long as the game you get in the end is great - and Nintendo tends to do a nice line in great games - who's really bothered?

I'm not overly bothered about Zelda being bumped. It's almost expected with giant releases like this and GTA games etc. Plus, as others have said: if it arrives a better game then I'm all for that, and there's plenty of other stuff to play in the meantime*

                      * if you own more than a WiiU

I'm disappointed but I expected it. It will give Xenoblade a sales boost among the WiiU faithful at least.

Aonuma's said we won't see Zelda at this year's E3 either, which to me says that we are looking at an Xmas 2016 release at the earliest unfortunately...if it's pushed back even further than that then it will surely be to do a Twilight Princess-style dual format release.

I would much rather have Zelda delayed than released in an unfinished state that's neither in the traditional linear style or truly open world as has been promised (an inbtetween mess, in other words).

Having said that, it will be a disaster for Nintendo if there is no big first party release for the end of 2015 and it will be hard for even the most hardcore to trust them again when it comes to a new machine launching in the future.

The Nintendo presentation at E3 should be interesting!

I think for Nintendo it will mean the WiiU effectively dies off by the end of this year. Xenosaga is the biggest game on the horizon now for them and there's no way it'll make a splash in sales so without that major key ip in place (not that Mario, Smash or Kart turned things around either) I reckon the WiiU will really drop off the map this year and NX speculation will go mental next year, along with rumours of a Zelda bump.

For owners, not too much. There's some interesting smaller releases still coming regardless. For E3 it'll mostly hang on how much Nintendo starts holding stuff back for NX

I would prefer it's released, is of high quality, and is in a timely fashion. This 2016 thing really disappoints me. If they go all-out and make it an NX-exclusive then I'll feel quite put out, as an Xmas 2014 WiiU buyer.

A "timely fashion" would be brilliant but this is Nintendo we're talking about!
