Do both sets of Mario Kart 8 DLC really come in at a combined size of 4GB!?
Only asking as that is what is on the eShop "Season Pass" download card/code for it.Last edited by Nu-Eclipse; 05-04-2015, 11:26.

As Nu above pointed out, the DLC and updates are starting to get a little large and have filled my basic WiiU to bursting point.
Thanks in advance!Last edited by Nu-Eclipse; 05-04-2015, 11:32.

Given what Nintendo's account system is like (and pricing most the time) I'm amazed so many people need storage options. Never come remotely close to filling my Premium's storage one and can't imagine it would have been much different if I'd gotten a standard model (looking back I should have done)

I purchased my Wii U Premium MK8 Pack last summer to take advantage of the Club Nintendo MK8 promo and get Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate for free. Aside from MH3U, D&D: Chronicles of Mystara, both NES Remix games and a few demos I really don't download digital versions of Wii U games often.
I certainly don't intend to properly commit to downloading Nintendo titles either on Wii U or 3DS until they start doing things much better (no more archaic tying purchased software to hardware bollocks, proper user accounts, better pricing, etc.).
Seeing how cheap Wii U Basic models have been, currently are (and thinking about how much cheaper they and Premiums might yet become), I kinda regret purchasing when I did and not waiting instead.Last edited by Nu-Eclipse; 05-04-2015, 11:44.

Our 8gb unit filled up in no time; mainly just from the initial system update and the mandatory install of WiiSports Club, along with updates to one or two other games.
By the time we came to play Mario Kart 8 in Feb, the system complained of not having enough space, then tried to download to the USB stick I plugged in, then failed (not liking the stick), so we got stuck in a never-ending cycle of "need to download patch/cannot download patch" that I could only stop by removing the stick, deleting MK8's data and deleting all wireless networking data from the WiiU!
We finally managed to get a USB hard drive; found a cheap 500gb one in CEX that we took a chance on, and it works well, so that's us sorted. Despite that, Nintendo should never have offered an 8gb unit.
EDIT: Despite that, I echo what has been said above - there's no way I'm making a habit of buying full price WiiU/3DS games until Nintendo sort out this account stuff. I've bought a couple of things, but only stuff in very good sales, very cheap titles or games like Phoenix Wright that only saw a digital release.

I have and would recommend the Toshiba Canvio (see below) as was said above you need to buy a Y-Cable separately but they're like ?3 or ?4 tops.
It is really easy to fill the Basic Wii U's 8GB since that includes the OS/dash then MK8 DLC is currently 1GB and looking like being 2GB soon. Pikmin DLC is another 1GB. SSB updates are currently 700GB and will probably multiply that a few times going forward. I also have NES Remix 1+2 and quite a few VC games (18 NES, 5 SNES, 1 N64). That would all fit on a premium pretty easily of course but I think the White Basic looks much better and when I picked up my Basic it was ?60 cheaper than the cheapest premium (six months after launch so was ?140 vs. ?199) so even with the ?40 I spent for the HDD/Y-Cable I'm still ?20 better off and I have 500GB rather than 32GB.

It's stupid Nintendo don't sell their own HDD, for none techy types it's so confusing, their own FAQ says use an independently powered 3rd party HDD but this works perfect with a Y-Cable and having 500GB feels so much better, I could finally update Smash Bros. and buy NES Remix / MvsDK etc.

Not being able to remove the standard HDD and install your own, like you can with Sony and/or MS consoles.
Another one of the Wii U's many hardware fails.Last edited by Nu-Eclipse; 05-04-2015, 13:26.

Isn't it onboard flash and soldered to the board along with the CPU? Personally I can see why Nintendo didn't go the Sony/MS route as it would mean a bigger console to house it, then a compartment/flap separating it from the other internals. Also in my experience your average Wii owner would probably be nervous about just unclipping the HDD flap on the back of the 360S so Wii U was probably made with that audience in mind.
I think the 8GB/32GB model was ok, bigger is always better of course but 32GB would probably do even my Nintendo-fangirl needs for a while longer and 8GB would do your family/casual owner who bought a bundle for MK8 and Wii Party. I think the bigger faux pas was not selling a White 32GB. That pissed me off at least.

Size isn't really a justification, imo. The Wii U is a pretty sizeable unit to begin with (length-wise). And it's not like the procedures for storage removal from MS/Sony consoles are painful to begin with so how it could be anymore difficult on a Nintendo machine is beyond me, quite frankly.Last edited by Nu-Eclipse; 05-04-2015, 14:32.
