The Gamecube had a poorly designed controller, no dvd support which meant game sizes were limited and textures suffered badly and a childish look.

It was poorly designed despite actually being powerful.

It isn't really their fault that Nintendo seem incredibly clueless when it comes to modern console hardware design - that's the problem with Nintendo now, not really their software. Nor is it their fault that major third-party devs pretty much want nothing whatsoever to do with Nintendo now.
Well it's all personal opinion, I just think Miyamoto has too much power, I read a lot of interviews and his projects all seem to be all made on a whim. That's great when he's gardening and Pikmin pops in his head but when it manifests as Wii Music and all that Wii guff it's not great. Star Fox looks uninspired too, as I said before it looks like something made to justify the gamepad (to the people who don't think off-tv play is enough) and to make Star Fox/Arwing Amiibo since he likes the characters. When you look at what comes from EAD teams when he just lets them do their projects and he pops in from time to time to check on it/give feedback you seemingly get Galaxy, 3D World, Mario Kart 8, Splatoon. I have the upmost respect for Miyamoto, I just thing he's lost touch slightly and would be better as a Nintendo statesman/mascot.

Aonuma just doesn't come across as a very personable man and he seems to be arrogant. He says he's 100% focused on Wii U Zelda and yet while he's worked on that Nintendo have got four 3DS Zeldas (OoT, MM, ALBW, Tri-Force Heroes) out the door plus Hyrule Warriors on Wii U (and now 3DS) and god knows how many Assassin's Creeds there has been in that time. He's like Kojima without the quality output, I actually can't say I was wowed by an console Zelda since Wind Waker (the 2002 one, although HD wowwed me again and perhaps I'm being unkind a Skyward Sword HD without the motion control could wow me since that game probably just came out at a time when motion control was old hat and 480p looked archaic).

I think it's just because Nintendo are rubbish now. Classic example of not moving with the times.
        Kept you waiting, huh?

Their marketing is rubbish, their management is rubbish, their community engagement is rubbish, and their hardware design decisions are questionable. Their games are absolutely top class. Mario Kart 8, Smash, and Splatoon are absolutely fantastic on all fronts, even when it comes to online with their novel features and Miiverse/YouTube integration. They certainly made examples out of Driveclub and Halo:MCC, any road.

The scary thing about this E3 was that their games are beginning to look rubbish too. Starfox should be much more than what it is currently.

I'm not talking about the graphics. I don't care about the quality of graphics if it means performance and scale are going to amaze just as much and offer a better gaming experience. If they go back and make the graphics 10x better between now and launch it won't fix a damn thing. The complete lack of design and progression shown with Starfox is absolutely disastrous and, for me, insulting. It looks no different than the SF64 (if I want to fly through that same Corneria level again for the 1,239th time I'll do it on the 3DS version I bought a couple of years back), it actually looks worse in a lot of ways with two screens adding to spatial unawareness whilst draining god knows how much of the console's grunt.

I honestly think it looks pretty good:

love the smoothness of how it moves (it's 60fps I think). I also think the sense of scale is good.

It 'looks' alright, but it's missing a huge sense of urgency and peril. It's slow enough for my wife to play competently, or my four year-old niece.

It needs speeding up to twice it's current rate, if not more.

Looks like a hastily thrown together wii game, which is probably what it is, just with updated resolution.

I'm thinking of finally getting a wii u since it has a lot of games I'm interested in playing now. Is there any point in getting the premium version if you don't plan on buying retail releases digitally? 32gb doesn't seem like a huge step up up from 8gb.

                      Probably not.

A Basic 8GB Wii U + a cheap-enough external HDD with a Y-Cable to hook up to the back of the Wii U = you are good to go.

Depends if you've got a USB HDD lying around. The price difference between them is what, ?25? About the price of a USB HDD. I would just get the premium. You will need the storage space for MK8 DLC and title updates but not much else. (8GB is insufficient for MK8 DLC alone)

Looks like a fun arcade game. Definitely buying.

I hate the Landmaster. Star Fox not Car Fox please.

                              Lol. Landmaster was epic.

I'm fine with the Landmaster, less keen on the new Chickenmaster though
