All things equal, Nintendo's vastly superior first-party software quality trumps anything equivalent that Sony and MS can come up with. That's not even up for debate.

It is ... That certainly might have been the case in the 16 and to a point the 64 bit days . But SONY In-House games and studio line-up is now better than anybodies in the industry . NCL still make the best platform game in the world and better than anybody else , but that's it imo.

Nintendo trouble is Hardware that's out of date before it even ships (meaning its hard for 3rd parties to support it, even if they want to ) and Nintendo are a like a analogue dinosaur in the digital age and entered the High Def and On-Line part of gaming far too late and they've last the Die Hard gamer as an result

I'm talking general game-design and consistent quality, pound-for-pound. Sony's in-house teams are definitely not better than Nintendo EAD in that regard.

And even if I was talking solely about genres, what top-quality shoot-em-ups, beat-em-ups, driving games, etc. are made by Sony first-party? The best PS games have pretty much always been third-party.

I personally think they should ally with Sony and completely wipe out MS. Nintendo portables and software with Sony home systems would be great. Of course history won't allow that. We know how 'proud' the Japanese can be.

Yup - That's not going to happen for obvious historical reasons, although I'd quite frankly love to see MS exit the console gaming scene (something that is also unlikely).

Yes. I want to stop having to buy multiple systems. I want to play Zelda, X, Mario, Last of Us, Forza Horizon 2, Halo MCC etc but I need 3 systems to do it. It's an outdated idea.

Trip Hawkins and 3DO had the right idea.

The only thing this gen has taught me is devs are happy to release rushed broken half finished pieces of junk at full price and expect people to just put up with waiting for 1+ gig patches to be rushed out to add the rest of the game to make it play properly. At least Nintendo do not release games in that state which is why i'm happy they do their own thing.

It's not likely to ever happen and I wouldn't mind seeing MS out of the console game. I didn't actually come out and explicitly say that I wanted a Sony-only console industry.

I've had 4 updates on my 3DS in the last month alone. It's a problem on all systems.

Nowhere near as much as xbone & ps4 i read through the threads and all i hear is talk of updates and dashboard updates not much talk of actual gaming it seems that updating is the new playing games.

True. It also took 4 hours to install a HDD, download Smash and update that. They all have massive issues.

So am I . Other than Mario I'm not too bothered about the stuff that comes from Nintendo these days and the likes of Mario Kart, Zelda, Pikmin are about as generic as they come - That's not to say they're bad games just they're nothing new and I've got bored of them .

Now you're just shifting and twisting the argument.

I never disputed that Sony have the third-party quality to bridge the gap. That's without question.

I asked you about the first-party titles Sony make that supposedly match what Nintendo do in terms of overall quality. What are they? Name them.

Off the top of my head, I can only think of Gran Turismo, Uncharted and The Last of Us as they're made by Sony-owned studios. Name others.

Well going by last generation I would say that Drakes 1 and II, Last of Us, Killzone II, Motorstorm II , GOW III were better (for me) than anything that came from Nintedo on the Wii (other than Mario Galaxy) and by the looks this geneartion will be no difference other than what comes from EAD Toyko
