Water temple was hard. Seriously hard.

I never had an issue with the Water Temple generally, it's biggest issue was one section where if you did it in a particular way it blocked you from being able to continue and you had to start the game from the very beginning. Once known and avoided though it was a fairly quick one to get through. I never played Majora all the way through but it was always an entry that felt like more of a faff, been meaning to replay it again for ages but won't go via 3DS for it

I think it's the "once known" thing that caused a problem though. It was pre-gamefaqs and it was next to impossible to even know if we couldn't continue and so just seemed really hard for some of us. For me, the two issues with that temple were simply the boot switching and losing a sense of place at different depths. So I was very happy that both were addressed in OoT without massively affecting the actual gameplay.

I would imagine it will largely be Grezzo who are responsible for the port (as they were for OOT 3D) so it's not as if they would have been working on the development of a new Zelda game instead.

I will also go out on a limb and suggest this could have been released much sooner if wanted, but since OOT 3D released in 2011 we've had another ported Zelda game (Wind Waker HD) in addition to A Link Between Worlds and Hyrule Warriors, so it wouldn't surprise me if MM 3D was held back to allow sufficient exposure time for these other titles.

Just started playing Link Between Worlds yesterday after having it on my shelf for a year, and I noticed Majora's Mask on the wall of Link's home, which you can effectively 'wear' when you go into picture mode and sneak behind it. Wonder if this was intended as a clue? (Apologies if I'm a year behind the times with this 'easter-egg' non-discovery ).

Yeah I'm really looking forward to this too. I think the creepy, claustrophic environments will look amazing when spruced up and in 3D, probably even better than the more clean and open landscapes of Ocarina 3D. Should be amazing. And very pleased they didn't make it New 3DS exclusive, as they could have done.

I love how the LE is already sold out on GAME!

I'm assuming that they'll make more pre-order allocations available like they did when the same thing happened to the LE of ALBW?

Yeah, I'm aware of that. Would prefer to pre-order from GAME for the Reward Points.
